As a member of our team, you'll work and collaborate with a small team of hardworking network engineers and partner with our APL enterprise network team. As a Senior Network Engineer...

  • Administer and secure APL's enterprise network to include switching, routing and wireless access points.

  • Provide operational and engineering expertise for APL's enterprise networks to include:

    • Engineering design, technology implementations and technology refreshes

    • Creation of supporting documentation such as architecture drawing, test plans, device configurations, processes and procedures

  • Propose designs/solutions to align APL's unclassified network with DoD security requirements, e.g. CMMC

  • Provide technical expertise to customers, sector technical staff, and other network engineers.

  • Analyze log and event data (packet captures, syslog, netflow, etc.) to solve enterprise operational, performance, and security related incidents


Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Possess aBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, related field or equivalent professional experience.

  • Have 10+ years experiencing working with Cisco IOS or similar.

  • Expertise in network protocols: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VRRP/HSRP and routing protocols (e.g. BGP, OSPF)

  • Have familiarization with Network Access Controls, 802.1X technologies; leveraging policy management, authentication, and authorization.

  • Have experience with Wireshark and Splunk

  • Experience designing and maintaining enterprise wireless deployments

  • Possess hands-on experience administering/maintaining computer networks.

  • Successfully led an engineering effort from concept development to implementation, providing regular progress updates to stakeholders and driving the project to completion.

  • Demonstrate sound deductive reasoning and thought processes.

  • Are willing and able to work outside normal working hours to complete critical maintenance and resolve outages.

  • Are able to obtain a Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have experience with NAC technologies (FortiNAC, ForeScout, Cisco ISE, etc.)

  • Have experience working with NIST 800-207 and NIST 800-171

  • Have experience working with Arista EOS

  • Have obtained or currently possess a wireless certification

  • Have experience with Ekahau software

  • Have experience with scripting and use of automated tools

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
