Job Description
Senior Research Associate to design, support, and conduct molecular biology and cardio-immunology research in the laboratory of Dr. Gumina within the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine; collaborate with Principal Investigator (PI) to develop, manage and implement research projects; serves as laboratory manager to ensure budgetary and supply chain efficiencies; trains all Gumina Laboratory investigators, including post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, and undergraduate students, and research staff in laboratory protocols and animal care; plans, designs, and conducts complex and advanced scientific experiments; independently plans and performs complex molecular biological and immunologic studies; provides specific expertise in the execution of immunology studies with both mouse and human studies; oversees and ensures appropriate maintenance of all laboratory equipment; negotiates and oversees equipment service contracts and repairs; writes and secures approval of human and animal research protocols when necessary; develops and maintains a library of all samples and supplies secured for studies within the lab; coordinates with collaborators to provide technical and expert assistance when needed; extracts, analyzes, interprets and evaluates experimental data; develops and implements new and/or revised research methods; assists principal investigator in research and development efforts of new research projects; participates in developing goals of projects; develops and establishes criteria and research standards to meet the goals of research projects; plans and writes manuscripts, articles, abstracts and research reports for publication in scientific journals; attends and presents research results at national and international scientific conferences and workshops; actively contributes to developing, writing, editing and critiquing all research grant proposals; investigates potential sources of funding agencies and makes recommendations to principal investigator.

Minimum Education Required
Masters or Doctoral (Academic) in a relevant biological or health science field or equivalent combination of education and experience with biological sciences and a focus in immunology

Required Qualifications and Skills:
Masters or Doctoral degree in a relevant biological or health science field or an equivalent combination of education and experience required; 5-6 years of relevant experience required. Extensive experience in biological/health science research capacity required; experience in an administrative capacity preferred; expertise in flow cytometry, western blot and; experience with RNAseq and scRNAseq techniques preferred; protein engineering, expression and purification methods preferred; extensive and specialized knowledge of the care and management of animal husbandry with experience in maintaining genetic mouse lines preferred; experience planning amp; developing projects preferred; prior experience and expertise in molecular biology and/or immunology required. Ability and drive to solve practical problems; Strong organizational skills; Project management skills, including the ability to track and manage inventory; Excellent multitasking skills; Requires successful completion of a background check. Selected candidate may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.
