Music Instructor

Essential Responsibilities:



  • Partner within the schools and/or Corps to lead or assist in music or other arts program as assigned.
  • Implement the lesson plans and curriculum that will be provided as necessary.
  • Assist with the plans of the recitals and help prepare the Corps music program to participate in the end of year program.
  • Encourage participants to work towards a goal and sense of accomplishment in developing musical abilities. Encourage participants to discover and develop skills and talents that will heighten their self-esteem, increase school/program pride and involve them in positive activities.
  • Assist with ensuring the music performances and activities to heighten the awareness of the purpose of the Corps in the community.
  • Encourage participants to attend summer camps, which will lead them to develop future talents and make spiritual decisions.
  • Maintain positive work atmosphere through appropriate conflict management, courteous demeanor, and professional and appropriate communication practices.
  • Maintain compliance in The Salvation Army's "Safe from Harm" Certification.
  • Perform other duties as assigned as related to Music and Arts.


Travel may be necessary.

Position Ranking:



  • Regular part time, non-exempt


Qualifications:

Candidates must have a passion for fulfilling the mission of The Salvation Army and must be articulate in presenting the same to others.

Candidates must successfully pass the pre-employment background inquiry and annual motor vehicle check with a valid driver's license.

A minimum of two years' experience working with Children and/or adults in the Arts spectrum. Proficiency in music theory and in a primary instrument. Performance experience is preferred. Ability to connect with others and forge strong relationships.

Education:

Bachelor's degree preferred, working towards a degree in music and/or significant related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

  • Ability to efficiently and effectively manage people and projects successfully.
  • Team player, self-starter, and perform well with minimal supervision.
  • Must have an interest and ability to work with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner.
  • Ability to establish policies and procedures; holding others accountable to the same.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience or capacity to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills and work as a cooperative team member.
  • Proficiency in computer software applications, including demonstrated experience in using email, MS Office applications, Internet and Social Media platforms.
  • Must be able to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary.


Physical Demands/ Work Environment:

This Position is required to do basic business and office work. To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the individual is regularly required to talk and listen, stand, walk, sit and use hands. Individual must be able to regularly lift up to 30 pounds and occassionally lift up to fifty pounds. The use of Office and Computer Equipment is necessary. Vision abilities will require close vision. Work may be performed indoors and occasionally require outdoors to attend meetings. There is low to moderate noise level for this position.
