Position Summary

This new role will have responsibility of operational management of field production of ornamental nursery crops along with supporting greenhouse operations. The position will work to support an ornamental plant breeding program located at the Durham Horticulture Farm in Watkinsville, GA. The tentative start date for this position is 3/15/2020 and continuation of the position is contingent upon future funding.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Diverse landscape management skills; ability to troubleshoot and maintain small equipment, mowers and tractors; valid driver's license.

Work outdoors under variable weather conditions; lift up to 50 pounds. Driving.

Duties/Responsibilities

Management of field research plots; maintenance of ornamental research plots including mowing, pre and post emergent weed control, application of mulch, planting, plant removal and pruning; maintenance of field equipment (mowers, carts, sprayers, weed eaters, etc...); irrigation installation and maintenance; soil samples.

Maintenance or assistance with container and greenhouse facilities; keep buildings and tools clean and organized; assist with greenhouse and container pad operation, maintenance and cleanup, potting and weeding container-grown plant material.
