Your Role

As a Gensler Signage Designer within our growing Charlotte office, you will bring technical proficiency with a passion for helping translate a client's brand into physical environments through graphics, signage, wayfinding, and placemaking strategies. You will focus on the strategy, design, documentation, and implementation oversight of signage systems including coordination and integration into larger architectural project contexts. Our ideal candidate is a strong 2D and 3D designer, who can quickly generate multiple concepts and develop them into viable design solutions. You have strong technical skills and will coordinate between multiple internal project design teams, fabricators, and clients. Your projects will vary in size and span across multiple industries.

What You Will Do

  • Develop innovative signage and wayfinding strategies that solve complex navigation challenges and create intuitive user experiences
  • Conduct research and user journey analysis to understand organizational, cultural, and physical environments, translating insights into effective communication systems
  • Design cohesive sign families, hierarchies, messaging frameworks, and environmental graphics that integrate typography, color, symbology, materials, and architectural context
  • Create sign location plans, message schedules, traffic flow diagrams, and detailed wayfinding documentation from concept through implementation
  • Produce design intent packages, technical drawings, elevations, details, and production-ready artwork for 2D, 3D, print, and digital applications
  • Collaborate closely with clients, architects, designers, contractors, and fabricators to deliver integrated, high-quality signage solutions
  • Coordinate fabrication, construction, and installation documentation while reviewing RFIs, shop drawings, prototypes, and submittals to ensure design integrity
  • Work within Revit-based BIM workflows to seamlessly integrate wayfinding and signage systems into architectural documentation and built environments
  • Participate in site surveys, field verification, installation reviews, and punch walks to ensure successful project execution from concept to completion
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while contributing to studio standards, best practices, innovation, and continuous improvement across signage and wayfinding design

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, industrial design, environmental design, architecture, visual communication, or related field
  • 5-10 years of professional experience in signage and wayfinding design, environmental graphic design, or similar studio experience
  • Strong graphic design, illustration, typography, composition, and information design skillsacross multiple project types
  • Portfolio demonstrating installed signage and wayfinding work, including both conceptual design and technical documentation (e.g., scale drawings and sign assembly details and coordination within architectural BIM models and drawing sets)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask, working on various projects at once, often with tight deadlines and with careful attention to detail
  • Ability to work with moderate guidance; proactive, motivated, self-starter
  • Nice to have: Familiarity and drive to learn and implement the latest and greatest software, technologies and workflows including a working understanding of AI for asset creation, workflow, and research
  • Software Competency:
    • Mastery: Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop), MS Office
    • Proficiency: Revit and other 3D modeling software such as Rhino, Sketchup, or similar
    • Nice to have: UX/UI prototyping e.g., Figma, Adobe Express, Adobe XD, Miro Prototype Pro or similar, Motion graphics or video editing e.g., Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Final Cut Pro or similar

For consideration, please submit a personal portfolio that contains examples of project work that highlights your creative process from concept to final deliverables.

This role is not remote; we look forward to working with our new Signage and Wayfinding Designer in our growing Charlotte office.
