The H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISyE) at the Georgia Institute of Technology seeks an Academic Professional with a working title of Director of Experiential Learning and Professional Practice. This role provides embedded, discipline-specific career advising, experiential learning leadership, and industry partnership support for undergraduate ISyE students. The Director will play a key role in preparing students for professional success, strengthening industry-engaged senior design projects, and launching innovative early-career experiential opportunities. Responsibilities
Career Advising & Professional Development Provide small-group career advising to undergraduate ISyE students, supporting preparation for internships, co-ops, and full-time employment. Develop and facilitate career workshops on professional development topics, either directly or in partnership with industry partners and ISyE alumni. Advise students on industry trends, career pathways, and job search strategies, fostering readiness for the professional world. Senior Design Project Coordinator Collaborate with the Senior Design program manager and faculty examiners to identify, cultivate, and onboard industry partners for student design projects. Facilitate alignment of projects with academic objectives, learning outcomes, and ISyE curriculum goals through clear scoping and partner expectations. Early Experiential Learning for First-year and Transfer Students Design and implement a new early experiential learning program for first-year and transfer ISyE students, offering real-world, appropriately scoped project experiences that introduce the major and build foundational skills. Develop a scalable program model, including: (a) project scoping templates and rubrics, (b) partner onboarding guidance, (c) student/team support structures, and (d) assessment tools tied to learning outcomes. Collaborate with ISyE stakeholders and industry partners to source and scope projects, define learning outcomes, and benchmark similar initiatives at peer institutions. Potentially teach components of the program or co-facilitate the learning experiences. Continuously assess and refine the program based on student feedback, learning outcomes, and industry relevance. Industry Partnerships for Experiential Learning Cultivate and maintain relationships with industry partners and alumni to support internships, projects, site visits, career panels, mentoring, and other experiential learning activities. Build a sustainable portfolio of partner engagements that aligns with ISyE curricular priorities and student career pathways. Benchmark best practices in experiential learning and undergraduate professional development across STEM disciplines. Participate in strategic planning for ISyE's undergraduate experiential learning and professional practice initiatives. Success in the first year will be demonstrated by progress across the following outcomes: Launch and deliver a pilot early experiential learning program for first-year and/or transfer ISyE students, including a defined set of learning outcomes, project templates, and an assessment/feedback loop. Expand and strengthen the pipeline of industry-engaged senior design projects (e.g., increasing the number and/or quality of partner-sponsored projects and improving partner experience through clearer scoping and engagement practices). Deliver a structured set of career readiness touchpoints for undergraduate ISyE students (e.g., workshops, coaching cohorts, targeted advising), aligned with internship/co-op and full-time placement timelines. Establish repeatable processes and partner-facing materials (e.g., sponsor onboarding, project scoping guidelines, data-sharing expectations, and communication cadences) to support sustainable growth.
