SSFM has shaped community, transportation, and infrastructure solutions across the Pacific for more than 65 years. Built on collaboration, trusted client partnerships, and a commitment to uplifting Hawaii's communities, our work strengthens the places where people live, work, and thrive. We are looking for a Senior Planner who brings resilience, strategic thinking, and projectmanagement leadership to guide impactful planning initiatives.

This role is ideal for a planner who operates with project manager-level independence, can lead complex planning efforts, and excels in client-facing communication.

Pay

Salary Range: $110,000 - $125,000 per year, depending on experience.

What We Offer

  • 100% covered medical, dental, and vision for you and eligible dependents
  • 401(k) with company-funded contributions
  • Paid time off starting at 15 days, plus paid holidays and community service time
  • Development, wellness, and recognition programs

What You'll Do

* Independently manage transportation, community, and resilience planning projects - from scoping through delivery - with full ownership of tasks, schedules, deliverables, and stakeholder coordination.

* Serve as the primary client point of contact, maintaining strong relationships, ensuring alignment, and representing SSFM with professionalism and cultural awareness.

* Lead advanced planning analyses, write highquality reports, prepare graphics, and synthesize technical data into clear, actionable recommendations.

* Design and facilitate stakeholder and community engagement, including workshops, public meetings, and interagency coordination sessions.

* Guide planning tasks and mentor junior planners to elevate team performance and workflow efficiency.

* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams - engineers, designers, analysts, environmental specialists - to deliver integrated solutions.

* Thrive in a dynamic environment, using resilience, organization, and sound judgment to manage competing priorities and tight timelines

What You Bring

* 5-8+ years of progressive experience in transportation, community, resilience, or general planning, ideally within Hawaii's regulatory and cultural context.

* Demonstrated ability to operate with independence and projectmanagement capability, managing multiple complex projects simultaneously.

* Strong communication skills, including writing, stakeholder engagement, meeting facilitation, and client interaction.

* Experience preparing planning reports, assessments, studies, permit-related documentation, and presentation materials.

* Strategic problemsolving, critical thinking, and adaptability in highpressure environments.

* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Planning, Geography, Public Administration, Architecture, Engineering, or related field.

* AICP preferred, or the ability and commitment to obtain AICP certification within a reasonable and mutually agreedupon timeframe.

If you're interested in this opportunity, we encourage you to apply. We look forward to learning more about you and how your experience could contribute to our team.
