The University of Arizona (UA) Physics Department invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in theoretical condensed matter/quantum physics starting Fall 2027. The existing condensed matter group includes four theorists, and four experimentalists. Areas of interest of the search are broadly defined and may include, but are not limited to, quantum materials, quantum many-body physics, two-dimensional and low-dimensional systems, magnetism and spintronics, correlated and topological phenomena, nonequilibrium and ultrafast physics, quantum transport, and quantum information science. We are particularly interested in candidates whose theoretical research can establish strong connections with experimentalists within the university. The Department of Physics at the University of Arizona is home to a vibrant and internationally recognized research enterprise. Our faculty lead major scientific collaborations, mentor the next generation of researchers, and drive discoveries that expand our understanding of the universe while advancing fields such as technology and quantum science. Faculty and students pursue groundbreaking research across a broad range of exciting disciplines, contributing new knowledge that not only shapes the future of physics but also delivers meaningful benefits to society. If you are passionate about advancing scientific discovery through research, education, and collaboration, we encourage you to apply and join our team! Application reviews will begin on November 30, 2026. Outstanding U of A benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance plans; life insurance and disability programs; sick leave and holidays; U of A/ASU/NAU tuition reduction for the employee and qualified family members; retirement plans; access to U of A recreation and cultural activities; and more!
