The Industrial & Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for driving operational excellence through process optimization, facility and workflow design, continuous improvement, and the implementation of new manufacturing technologies. This role serves as a key contributor to increasing productivity, improving quality, reducing costs, and supporting the growth of Ball Ground operations through industrial engineering principles and advanced manufacturing solutions.

The position will lead time studies, capacity analysis, line balancing, facility layout improvements, and capital equipment projects while leveraging SolidWorks and other engineering tools to support manufacturing processes. A significant focus of this role will be the evaluation, justification, implementation, and ongoing optimization of new manufacturing equipment and automation technologies.

Key Responsibilities Industrial Engineering & Continuous Improvement
  • Conduct time studies, work sampling, labor analysis, and line balancing to improve throughput and labor efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain standard work instructions, manufacturing routings, and process documentation.
  • Analyze plant performance metrics including cycle times, capacity utilization, OEE, labor productivity, and scrap rates.
  • Lead Lean Manufacturing initiatives utilizing 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work, and waste elimination methodologies.
  • Identify bottlenecks and implement sustainable solutions to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance.
  • Support workforce planning through labor standards and capacity modeling.
Manufacturing Process Development
  • Design and improve manufacturing processes, tooling, fixtures, and workstation layouts.
  • Optimize material flow and plant layout to improve productivity and reduce non-value-added activities.
  • Collaborate with Production, Quality, Supply Chain, and Engineering teams to support new product introductions and production improvements.
  • Develop manufacturing best practices focused on safety, ergonomics, quality, and efficiency.
New Equipment & Capital Projects
  • Lead the specification, evaluation, justification, procurement, installation, and commissioning of new manufacturing equipment.
  • Develop capital investment proposals including ROI, productivity gains, labor savings, and capacity analysis.
  • Manage equipment implementation projects from concept through production launch.
  • Support automation initiatives and advanced manufacturing technologies including CNC equipment, automated material handling systems, industrial washing systems, and specialty fabrication equipment.
  • Coordinate equipment vendors, contractors, training programs, and startup activities to ensure successful implementation.
  • Monitor post-installation performance and drive continuous improvement of newly installed equipment.
CAD & Technical Design
  • Utilize SolidWorks to design manufacturing fixtures, tooling, workholding devices, plant layouts, and process improvements preferred
  • Collaborate with product engineering teams to improve manufacturability and reduce production costs.
Data Analysis & Systems Management
  • Analyze production trends and provide recommendations for continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Support inventory optimization, labor utilization, and capacity planning activities.
Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field.
Experience
  • 5+ years of experience in a Engineering to order (ETO) manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated success leading continuous improvement initiatives and capital equipment implementations.
  • Experience supporting fabrication, assembly, industrial equipment, or process manufacturing operations preferred.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering methodologies.
Technical Skills
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks required.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and manufacturing layout design preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems, production planning systems, and manufacturing analytics.
  • Strong understanding of time studies, labor standards, capacity planning, and process optimization.
  • Knowledge of automation, CNC equipment, industrial fabrication processes, and manufacturing technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting or manufacturing Engineered-to-Order (ETO) products, including custom assemblies, fabricated systems, process equipment, piping systems, or specialty industrial products.
  • Demonstrated experience leading Operational Excellence (OpEx) initiatives in a manufacturing environment.
  • Lean Six Sigma knowledge preferred.
  • Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work, Visual Management, and continuous improvement systems.
  • Proven track record of driving measurable improvements in productivity, quality, cost reduction, safety, and delivery performance through Operational Excellence methodologies.
  • Experience leading plant expansion, equipment relocation, facility layout, or manufacturing footprint optimization projects.
  • Experience performing ROI analysis, capital project justification, and equipment implementation projects.
  • Knowledge of welding, fabrication, piping, or process equipment manufacturing.
