Construction Management Tenure-Track Faculty

This position is an on-campus, full-time, tenure-track appointment based in Champaign, Illinois covered by the Parkland Academic Employees (PAE) collective bargaining unit. The starting salary range is between $49,454.18 - 74,616.65, commensurate with certifications, years of teaching experience, and education received.

The Construction Management Faculty work in
conjunction with the Construction Management Program Director to advise and
mentor students and participate in governance of their departments and the
college. Tenure-Track Faculty teach a full-time load as per the Parkland
Academic Employees (PAE) bargaining agreement. Courses taught may include land
surveying, computer-aided drafting, construction plan reading, construction
methods, building standards, and cost estimating.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide classroom instruction in accordance with the stated philosophy, objectives, and established course outlines of the college and conduct academic assessment and program evaluation.
  • Inform students of course regulations, evaluation procedures, and other information pertinent to the course; prepare a course syllabus for each course and post with other course information on college's Learning Management System (LMS) by date set by the College.
  • Teach courses during day, evening, and weekend hours as needed to meet program, student, and industry needs.
  • Teach courses through non-traditional delivery methods: flexible, hybrid, non-credit and competency based.
  • Maintain regular office hours to ensure availability for student consultation; provide assistance to students in a timely manner.
  • Is available for student advising/mentoring.
  • Participate in the instruction of other classes as needed.
  • Maintain accurate scholastic records of students; submit required reports on student progress according to published deadlines.
  • Participate in student recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Work closely with department chair to design, maintain, and updated course curriculum and materials for assigned courses.
  • Perform professional duties in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the college and department.
  • Participate in departmental governance, including curriculum development, instructional materials selection, and academic assessment.
  • Participate in college-wide shared governance, including Parkland College Association (PCA) Senate, its committees, administrative committees, and accreditation committees.
  • Participate in professional development activities related to discipline knowledge and/or teaching skills.
  • Assist the department chair with external relations.
  • Work closely with advisory and faculty committees to maintain and improve the quality of course and programs.
  • Work closely with trade unions, monitor, and facilitate dual credit course work, degrees, and certificates.
  • Work as liaison between appropriate agencies in the community.
  • Assist in program evaluation and accreditation procedures.
  • Work with faculty to facilitate text selection.
  • Assist the department chair with equipment and lab space maintenance and repair.
  • Monitor adherence to safety codes, budget constraints, and departmental policies.
  • Stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field.
  • Foster and maintain a collegial, equitable, and collaborative work environment in which all team members have a shared understanding of the mission of the institution and clear expectations of their responsibilities in that mission and accountability for those responsibilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum
Requirements:

  • A.A.S. degree in the field plus five (5) years of industry experience, or more advanced degree with equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possession of OSHA 30 Safety Certification, or the ability and commitment to obtain certification within the first year of employment.
  • Prospective new hires will successfully complete a post offer, pre-employment criminal background check with fingerprinting. The background check review includes, but is not limited to, exclusionary offenses per the Illinois School Code and Title IV of the Higher Education Act.
  • Ability to learn Parkland information systems and new programs as technology changes.
  • Availability to teach evening and/or weekend classes as needed.
  • In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment. This applies to all SURS annuitants except those receiving their annuity under either the Self-Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump sum payment.
