POSITION SUMMARY

The Lead Occupational Health RN assists with the day-to-day clinical and operational functions of the Occupational Health Clinic under the supervision of the Clinic Manager. The Lead Occupational Health RN assists in direct supervision of clinical staff and ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care in compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, Critical Access Hospital standards, and Illinois Department of Public Health requirements. The Lead Occupational Health RN supports quality improvement initiatives, regulatory compliance, and coordination of care between the clinic and affiliated hospital departments.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operations & Staff Management:
    • Directs the activities of the clinic staff including employee scheduling.
    • Functions as a backup administrator for all healthcare software used by the department.
    • Participates in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and training new staff.
    • Maintains all office and department supplies.
    • Facilitates the drug and alcohol collection certification process for the Occupational Health department and for the required RCH staff on the main campus.
    • Facilitates onsite drug and alcohol collections as requested by companies.
    • Collaborates on annual IDOT physicals/drug/alcohol testing.
    • Coordinates and maintains annual calibration, certification and testing of pulmonary function testing equipment, breath alcohol testing equipment, and PotaCount respirator fit testing equipment.
    • Arranges annual calibration of audio booth.
    • Completes the daily visit reconciliation in Agility.
    • Administers TB skin tests, vaccinations, and drug & alcohol testing.
    • Ensure appropriate staffing to meet patient care needs.
  • Clinical Responsibilities:
    • Provide direct patient care within the scope of licensure.
    • Obtain and accurately document patient vital signs, vision screenings, and urinalysis results.
    • Oversees patient care across the continuum, including referrals and follow-up for employees of external employer organizations, including referrals and Worker's Compensation.
  • Care Coordination & CAH Integration:
    • Collaborates with hospital departments (laboratory, radiology, emergency department, billing, and HIM).
    • Supports continuity of care between the clinic and Critical Access Hospital services.
  • Regulatory Compliance (CAH):
    • Supports compliance with Critical Access Hospital regulatory requirements as applicable to outpatient services.
    • Maintains readiness for regulatory surveys and inspections.
  • ???????Quality Assurance & Performance Improvement (QAPI):
    • Monitors quality metrics and assists in implementation of performance improvement initiatives.
  • Infection Prevention & Control:
    • Supports implementation and ongoing compliance with the Infection Prevention and Control Program.
    • Monitors adherence to infection control practices, including hand hygiene, PPE use, and equipment disinfection.
    • Participates in infection surveillance and reporting activities.
  • CLIA-Waived Laboratory Oversight (if applicable):
    • Ensure compliance with CLIA-waived testing requirements.
    • Verifies staff competency for point-of-care testing.
    • Monitors quality control (QC) documentation and proper use of laboratory equipment.
  • Emergency Preparedness:
    • Assists with drills (fire, tornado, medical emergencies, active threat).
    • Ensure staff are trained in emergency response procedures.
  • Risk Management & Safety:
    • Ensure timely completion of incident/occurrence reports with clinic staff.
    • Assists in investigation and follow-up of safety events within the Occupational Health Clinic.
  • Policy & Procedure Oversight:
    • Assists in development, review, and implementation of clinic policies and procedures.
  • Administrative & General Duties:
    • Act as an Agility super-user and resource for clinic staff.
    • Current CPR certification.
    • Completion of continuing education per Illinois licensure requirements.
    • Completion of annual employee health requirements.
    • Participation in required department meetings.
    • Completion of assigned training modules (e.g., HealthStream).

    • Promptly report safety issues such hazardous conditions, job-related injury or illness, and seek guidance or treatment.
    • Follows all professional standards, policies, procedures, best practices, clinical protocols of federal/state/local requirements and regulatory organizations.
    • Maintains strict confidentiality of patients, records, financials, department and hospital information applicable to HIPPA and law/policy.
    • Portrays professional, positive, caring, high-quality, safe and kind experience for visitors, patients, physicians and staff.
    • Supports and promotes an environment conducive to Standards of Behavior, Mission, Vision and Values of the hospital.
    • Other duties as assigned within the scope of job and organization.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

- Education/Licensure/Certification or credentials
Required:
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in nursing required.
  • Professional Registered Nurse, Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation required.
  • Must have or be able to obtain within one (1) year:
    • ???????NIOSH Certification
    • CAHOC Certification
    • Breath Alcohol and Drug Testing Certification
- Skill/Experience/Competency
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to provide and oversee a wide range of clinical services.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory and compliance standards (CLIA-waived testing, infection control).
  • Ability to perform patient assessments, including history and vital signs.
  • Proficient in electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
