Summary of Position Functions

The Senior Project Developer will lead costing and support the development of distributed energy resource (DER) and microgrid projects across the West Region, primarily in California, Arizona, and Colorado. Working with the regional sales, development, engineering, and operations teams, the Senior Project Developer will also turn prospective opportunities into projects ready for execution.

Essential Position Functions

• Develops cost estimates and project plans for solar PV, energy storage, and backup generation systems from origination through financial close.
• Builds relationships with site representatives, local agencies, and other stakeholders while advancing a portfolio of opportunities.
• Leads costing for DER and microgrid opportunities, including solar PV, energy storage, and backup generation.
• Coordinates early development across multiple sites, including site and equipment selection, utility routing, initial system design, interconnection, permitting, and construction planning.
• Prepares requests for proposals and obtains and evaluates vendor quotes with support from DER Engineering.
• Negotiates with vendors and suppliers, working with legal, finance, and executive teams on contract terms.
• Works with DER engineers and regional developers to select technical and material solutions that improve project competitiveness.
• Presents technical and financial solutions clearly to customers and internal decision makers.
• Supports constructible Helioscope designs, financial models, and feasibility studies.
• Evaluates applicable rebates, solar renewable energy credits, other incentives, and net metering policies.
• Coordinates with customers on site access and construction requirements, and with the Preconstruction team on final design and permitting.
• Prioritizes opportunities based on feasibility, cost, and likelihood of reaching execution.

Education and Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or related field from a four-year college or university; or five+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least five years of experience in solar energy storage, or microgrid construction required.
• Three years of experience in project development required.
• Two plus years of Energy Engineering experience is desired.
• Experience in one or more of the following computer applications: AutoCAD, Revit, Visio, Procore, MS Project required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of Veregy's services and processes is required which can be obtained through intellect, technical inclination, and dedication to gain such knowledge.
• Knowledge (Intermediate to advanced) of various operating systems, software products (e.g. MS Office, etc.), is required.
• Knowledge of the regional market, an understanding of the factors that drive project costs, and the ability to work effectively with customers, contractors, suppliers, utilities, and internal teams.
• Knowledge of financial metrics, including net present value (NPV) and internal rate of return (IRR), and the ability to assess project uncertainty.
• Knowledge of state and federal policies affecting DER projects and the ability to assess their effect on project opportunities.
• Ability to advance projects in an environment where cost is a key decision factor, preferably in solar, energy storage, energy efficiency, or microgrids.
• Ability to identify and resolve technical, financial, and development obstacles.
• Ability to contribute to and lead cross-functional teams.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management and staff.
• Ability to problem-solve and analyze complex issues, develop innovative solutions, and make data-driven recommendations to address business challenges.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to work under deadline pressure and extra hours if needed.

Travel Requirement

• Frequent travel to customer sites within California, Arizona, and Colorado is required, estimated at 20-50%.
