Project/Unit Description

The Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) Systems Engineering Research Division (SERD) is currently seeking a Branch Head to lead the Digital Engineering Tools and Environments Branch (DETE). This Branch aims to be a trusted and sought after architect group for creating purposeful and valuable digital engineering and MBSE environments within the Department of Defense (DoD). This includes being thought leaders and experts in digital threads, the tools needed to execute them, and architecting the integrated environments.

SERD is primarily located at the Cobb Country Research Facility in Smyrna, Georgia, however candidates located outside of the metro Atlanta area will also be considered.


Job Purpose

Lead multiple sponsored research projects. Manage Branch (7-15 FTE) administrative activities including hiring, appraisals and sponsored project success.


Additional Responsibilities

  • Train and mentor branch members, which includes research faculty, undergraduate, and graduate students, to cultivate expertise in
    systems engineering processes and digital engineering. This includes facilitating the publication of innovative research activities,
    professional development, and training opportunities
  • Lead business development activities for the Branch, which encompass sponsor engagement, showcasing branch capabilities to both internal and external organizations, and providing support for sponsor tours, visits, technical meetings, and briefings
  • Author proposals and white papers aimed at fostering sustained branch growth
  • Execute administrative tasks, such as recruitment, hire, and terminations of branch members, conduct
    performance appraisals, implement performance improvement plans, and review/approve employee time sheets
  • Innovate novel tool integrations that support and evolve modern systems engineering and digital engineering approaches
  • Design and/or implement software tools that aid DoD sponsors in the execution of systems engineering and digital engineering
    processes
  • Execute model-based systems engineering processes, to include functional decomposition, requirements development, architectural
    development, and test program development
  • Execute model-based system engineering processes to support the architecture of MBSE and DE environments


Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience executing technical projects
  • Experience leading small to mid-sized teams of research engineers and/or technical staff
  • Experience with several MBSE and Digital Engineering tools, such as, but not limited to, PTC Integrity, IBM DOORS, Phoenix Model
    Center, OpenMDAO, Cameo Systems Modeler, Siemens Teams Center, and Jupyter Lab
  • Experience leading Business Development activities such as sponsor engagement and proposal development
  • Active Secret Clearance


Preferred Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI Clearance
  • Leadership and Management Skills: Strong leadership skills, including the ability to lead a team, mentor junior staff, and manage
    projects
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in systems engineering and software engineering processes and tools. Knowledge of relevant
    software and analytical tools
  • Communication Skills: Proficient written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated experience in coordinating with team
    members, presenting to stakeholders, and composing reports and proposals
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Demonstrated experience in analyzing complex problems, devising innovative solutions, and implementing
    effective strategies
  • Project Management: Familiarity with project management principles and experience in managing research projects, including writing proposals and managing budgets
  • Team Collaboration: The ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and liaise with various stakeholders
    - Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to contribute to the development of novel research activities and analytical approaches
  • Understanding of Defense and Military Operations: Familiarity with Department of Defense (DoD) operations, and an understanding of the military context
  • Languages: The ability to work with multiple engineering language semantics and ontologies, the ability to discern the practical utility of various engineering languages, and the ability to meaningfully use two more languages in combination to solve systems engineering challenges in innovative ways

Due to our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be U.S. Citizens.
