Mass General Brigham Community Anesthesiology is seeking an experienced anesthesiologist to serve as Chief and Medical Director of Anesthesiology at Cooley Dickinson Hospital (CDH) in Northampton, Massachusetts.

This is an opportunity to assume meaningful physician leadership while continuing to practice in a highly collaborative community hospital environment. The Chief and Medical Director will have a direct voice in how anesthesia services are staffed, scheduled, developed and delivered at Cooley Dickinson - with responsibility for quality and safety, clinical operations, recruitment, team development and future program growth. The role reports to both the President and Chief Operating Officer of Cooley Dickinson Hospital and the MGB Chair of Anesthesiology and is part of the broader Mass General Brigham integrated anesthesiology service line.

We are seeking a clinically strong, collaborative physician leader who enjoys bringing people together, improving how care is delivered and building high-performing teams. The successful candidate will be energized by the opportunity to lead an established anesthesia practice while helping define its next chapter.

The Chief and Medical Director will help shape both the day-to-day practice and its long-term direction, partnering closely with anesthesiologists, CRNAs, surgeons, nursing, perioperative leaders and hospital leadership.

Key areas of leadership include:

• Providing direction and collaborating with Associate Medical Director to ensure efficient appropriate staffing and resource allocation
• Helping establish an equitable and sustainable practice environment
• Partnering with surgical and perioperative leaders as well as hospital and MGB Anesthesiology leaders to optimize OR operations, efficiency and patient care
• Leading quality, safety and performance-improvement efforts
• Participating in strategic planning, program development and clinical growth
• Representing Cooley Dickinson in broader MGB Anesthesiology initiatives
• Helping shape the future team through leading recruitment, hiring, managing and mentoring anesthesiologists and CRNAs

The department has specifically designed the role to include responsibility for clinical operations, growth planning, recruitment, quality and safety, OR performance and team leadership.

Compensation & Benefits

• 5 day workweek, post-call days assigned for primary calls
• Base compensation of $545-$555k, with the opportunity to earn up to $50k-$100k+ annually with incentive/extra shifts
• Leadership Stipend Added to Base + 10% protected administrative time
• $75k total sign-on bonus

• Call Expectations:
  • 72 call shifts per year (45 weekday / 9 total weekends)
  • 9 first call / 9 second call shifts per quarter
  • First call: 24 hours (home/pager call with ~20 minute return time as needed) + post call day off (Mon - Thurs & Sun call shifts)
  • Second call: 24 hours (onsite until ~5:30pm or when released and then available by phone. Rare call-back)
