Accounting Solutions Engineer, Corporate

This position is considered hybrid, allowing for a combination of remote work and in-office collaboration. Qualified applicants must live within commuting distance of our Boston office locations and should expect to be in office 3-4 days per week.

Sonos is looking for an Accounting Solutions Engineer to join the Corporate Accounting team. This role combines strong corporate accounting expertise - consolidations, technical accounting, and external reporting support - with a hands-on focus on AI, automation, and scalable process design. As Sonos accounting modernizes from manual, review-heavy workflows toward AI-enabled and self-service processes, this person will be a primary architect of that shift within the Corporate Accounting pillar.

The ideal candidate brings solid technical accounting knowledge together with real experience using AI tools, scripting, and workflow automation to reduce manual effort, strengthen controls, and speed up the close and reporting cycle. Accounting accuracy and judgment remain the foundation - automation is what frees that judgment to focus on the areas that actually need it.

AI, AUTOMATION & FINANCIAL SYSTEMS SOLUTIONS

• Design and implement AI-assisted and automated workflows across consolidations, technical accounting, close, and reconciliation review processes.
• Identify manual or repetitive corporate accounting tasks and redesign them using AI tools, scripting (Google Apps Script, Python), and financial systems integrations.
• Build scalable workpapers, dashboards, exception reporting, and validation checks - including tools that generate preliminary variance commentary for financial statement fluxes - to improve efficiency and review quality.
• Partner with Finance Systems, Data, and IT to ensure automated solutions are reliable, auditable, controlled, and SOX-compliant.
• Evaluate emerging AI and automation tools and recommend practical applications for Corporate Accounting.
• Ensure AI-generated outputs are validated using professional judgment and technical accounting knowledge before use in close, consolidation, or reporting deliverables.

TECHNICAL ACCOUNTING, AUDIT, & EXTERNAL REPORTING

• Own complex technical accounting areas and related processes, including lease accounting (ASC 842), software capitalization projects (ASC 350-40), and compensation (ASC 718); building repeatable and well-documented processes rather than one-off analysis.
• Support the consolidation process, including foreign exchange revaluations, intercompany eliminations, and complex consolidation workflows, with direct ownership of specialized areas.
• Design and oversee the policy that determines which reconciliations and journal entries require full review versus automated exception-based sign-off, retaining final approval authority on higher-risk areas so review time concentrates on genuine anomalies.
• Continuously improve the quarterly and annual reporting and audit cycle - automating flux analysis and variance commentary across the cash flow, balance sheet, and income statement, as well as audit schedule preparation and tie-out validation - interacting with external auditors as needed.

CROSS-FUNCTIONAL PARTNERSHIP

• Serve as a practical technology builder within Corporate Accounting, helping identify where AI, automation, and financial systems investment create the most value.
• Partner with FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Finance Systems/Data, and external auditors on accounting data, process, and system improvements.
• Maintain detailed process documentation, system documentation, and SOX-compliant control structures for all newly automated workflows.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related quantitative field required. CPA certification is strongly preferred.
• 6-8 years of progressive accounting experience, with a mix of public accounting and corporate industry experience.
  

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must possess expertise/knowledge sufficient to adequately perform the duties of the job being offered. Expertise/knowledge may be gained through employment experience or education. Required expertise/knowledge includes:

• Strong knowledge of US GAAP, including technical accounting areas such as ASC 842 (Leases), software capitalization (ASC 350-40), consolidations, and multi-entity intercompany structures.
• Demonstrated builder mindset - proven ability to identify manual accounting processes and design scalable, controlled, and repeatable solutions, not just a willingness to use new tools.
• Hands-on experience with AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot), scripting languages (Google Apps Script, Python, VBA), and BI/automation platforms (Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx).
• Experience with major enterprise ERPs (e.g., SAP) and consolidation software.
• Ability to translate technical accounting requirements into process, data, and system design requirements.
• Strong project management, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally across Accounting, FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Finance Systems, and external auditors.
• Practical curiosity about emerging AI and automation capabilities, with the judgment to apply them responsibly in a controlled finance environment.

The specific pay offered will depend on the candidate's geographic location, as well as qualifications and experience. We apply geographic pay differentials based on the cost of labor in the market. Employees in high-cost locations may be compensated at the upper end of the range, while those in medium or low cost markets may be compensated at the lower end of the range.
