Job Title: IT Research Business Systems Analyst

Location(s): San Francisco, CA
(Hybrid: 3 days/month on site)

Job Summary
The Business Systems Analyst provides functional support and expertise for Research Administration Systems (RAS), Accounts Receivable (AR), and related integrations and business processes. The role serves as a bridge between end users and technical development resources and requires advanced knowledge of functional and technical system support, including requirements gathering, analysis, data, documentation, design, programming, testing, implementation, and system maintenance.

The position focuses on Oracle Cloud Grants, Projects, and Accounts Receivable implementation and support, along with enterprise financial and administrative systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide daily end-user support and triage of highly complex system problems using incident management procedures and ticketing systems.
  • Perform extensive data analysis and system integrity reviews.
  • Gather and document operational requirements from end users and key business stakeholders.
  • Organize and translate business requirements into functional specifications for development resources.
  • Execute activities within established Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) procedures covering system design and documentation, knowledge management, fixes, enhancements, and upgrades.
  • Support new implementations and functionality.
  • Analyze business practices, processes, and problems and develop technology-based solutions.
  • Develop specifications for systems to meet business requirements.
  • Validate requirements against business needs.
  • Design details of automated systems and user interfaces.
  • Plan and execute unit, integration, and end-user acceptance testing.
  • Create training materials for system support and change management.
  • Collaborate with and often lead cross-functional teams to resolve highly complex business or systems issues.
  • Understand and validate system functions routinely to confirm system performance and results.
  • Ensure system integrity during upgrades.
  • Apply advanced technical knowledge, system design principles, and data structures to improve and extend business applications.
  • Isolate key design dependencies and decision points and provide comprehensive documentation and communication.
  • Support enterprise applications and related integrations involving Grants, Contracts, Projects, Billing, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and General Ledger.
  • Support related applications and integrations serving research and other business functions, including Student AR and Sundry Billing.
  • Work with enterprise applications teams to support software maintenance, new implementations, and financial and administrative systems.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience providing functional/technical support for enterprise software such as PeopleSoft Grants, Contracts, Projects, Billing, and Accounts Receivable modules.
  • Oracle Cloud Grants, Projects, and Accounts Receivable implementation and support functional experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in an organization comparable in terms of budget, size, complexity, scope of operations, and accounting systems.
  • Strong knowledge of database table structures, functions, processes, integrations, and design components.
  • High proficiency in SQL, query creation, data extraction, organization, and analysis.
  • Advanced knowledge and utilization of application design, functional/technical documentation requirements, and testing methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather, synthesize, and prioritize highly complex end-user requirements.
  • Ability to effectively translate, summarize, and present requirements to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working with in-house developers and third-party vendors.
  • Demonstrated understanding of technical change management procedures for enterprise software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical personnel at various organizational levels.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Minimum 5+ years of related experience.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • Experience supporting complex research administration and financial systems.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft Financials and Research Administration Systems.
  • Experience supporting integrations between enterprise financial, research, and administrative applications.
  • Experience developing system documentation, knowledge-management materials, and end-user training materials.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams addressing complex business and systems issues.

Additional Information

  • Full medicals are required for all onsite or hybrid candidates.

Schedule:

  • Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM PST

Location:

  • Hybrid - 3 days/month on site; non-local remote candidates will also be considered.
