Job Summary
This position, reporting to the Lab Manager in the Office of Information Technology ( OIT), is responsible for installing, maintaining, and upgrading hardware and software. The role also includes providing technical support to students, faculty, and staff in the OIT Computer Labs and walk-up support areas of OIT.
Minimum Education and Experience
Associate's degree or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Education and Experience

  • Associate's degree or 2+ years related experience in IT customer technical support.
  • Applicant understands different work styles, conflict resolution techniques and demonstrated ability to deal with employees in a positive manner.
  • Learns new technologies quickly and applies this new knowledge to further the goals of the department.
  • Possess project management skills, including design, planning, resource allocation, coordination and documentation.


Experience with:

  • Computer lab management software.
  • Hardware diagnostics, server performance monitoring, network utilities and application performance optimization.
  • Microsoft Management Console, Active Directory, and Group Policy Management Editor.
  • Print management systems, including building print packages, adding printers and multi-function devices, and integration of peripheral components.
  • Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), building and deploying application packages.
  • Technology relating to a higher education institution.

Other Qualifications
To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service to University faculty, staff and students.
  • Conduct research into resolving unusual or unique computing problems that may occur.
  • Provide oversight and/or system administration of desktop support toolsets.
  • Coordinate evaluation of new Lab software/hardware.
  • Coordinate the implementation of future software/hardware installations.
  • Arrange for repair of hardware and software in all OIT Lab areas.
  • Manage applications, print servers, print queues, print files, print kiosks, and computer lab printer configurations and problems.
  • Test complete system, all applications and network connectivity according to UTD guidelines.
  • Coordinate with other Information Technology and Information Security staff on system configuration policies.
  • Conduct software and hardware audits/inventory of all Lab equipment in accordance with university policies and procedures.
  • Ability to document activities and solutions and contribute to knowledge base.
  • Coordinate or participate with internal Information Technology staff for enterprise problem resolution, as well as coordinate the flow of information between users, OIT and other departmental technical support staff.
  • Assist the Lab Manager with hiring, training, supervising, mentoring, and scheduling of student worker staff.
  • Other responsibilities and duties may be assigned to this position.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • Position may require sitting for long periods of time using keyboard and reading data on monitors, stooping and bending to pick up, carry and move computer/printer equipment from one location to another.

Additional Information
Normal working hours are between 8am - 5pm, however, availability outside of these hours may be required. With supervisor approval, this position may work an alternate schedule.
May be required to travel on/off campus by golf cart or own transportation.
