Job Summary:
The Demo Operator works with the appropriate sales department personnel to assist in the merchandising of Fabick's complete product line. This may include but is not limited to: Machine demonstrations; machine "walk around" presentations; customer site evaluations; customer events; Cat simulator orientation.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the merchandising of Fabick's complete product line. Demonstrates proper and safe operating technique on the products that we sell. Highlights the operational capabilities of our products in competitive and non-competitive demonstrations, such that the sales opportunity is enhanced by the demonstration. Becomes our expert on various Cat machine simulators and is able to use this tool to enhance the training experience. Works closely with the field sales people so that proper attachments, machine applications, and job conditions are anticipated to achieve maximum value from the demonstration. Works closely with customers to assist them with machine operation issues providing professional advice when requested. "Selling" the operator is the primary goal of the Demonstrator/Operator
- Trains customer's operators. Responsible for operator training to the extent that the customer's operators become familiar with various controls, systems, safety procedures, and daily maintenance on the machine in question. Conducts operator training seminars for customer groups when appropriate.
- Performs formal deliveries and revisits. Performs formal deliveries, including the completion of the necessary paperwork, either individually or with the appropriate sales person's involvement. Follows up with customers on recently delivered machinery to ensure proper operation and to answer customer questions in order to assure customer satisfaction.
- Performs machine inspections. Works with the sales person and customer, in the field, to appraise potential trade-ins. Also called upon to inspect other used equipment for possible company purchase. Completes appraisal form and provides it to our used equipment department with appropriate photos. On occasion, may be required to inspect new equipment for extended warranty purposes
- Participates in trade shows and events. Assists our Marketing Department in the setup of displays for various customer events including open houses, and trade shows.
- Stays current with new product offerings. Maintains a strong knowledge of the markets that our customers serve. Keeps abreast of product updates for products that we represent along with competitors' products.
- Takes part in continuing education. Attends Cat training when available and appropriate working towards Certified Dealer Instructor Certification in all machine families. Uses online resources, including Caterpillar University, in order to stay informed and current with happenings in our industry.
- Lends assistance to other departments. Assists Service Department in testing equipment, troubleshooting customer machine problems, picking up and delivering small machinery and components, and providing technical assistance on installing special attachments. In addition, assists in light building and yard maintenance.
- Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by Management.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Associate Degree or Professional Certification in a related discipline is preferred
- Three to five years of related experience is required, which could include a history in the following disciplines: equipment operator; heavy equipment or diesel technician; technical trainer; vocational instructor; other construction related fields.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must.
- A strong mechanical aptitude is required. Knowledge of Caterpillar and or competitive construction equipment is required.
- The individual must be able to work in a team environment, both leading and supporting others depending on the circumstances.
- The ability to learn quickly and take initiative
- Must be comfortable and competent in presenting complex information about the operational capabilities and requirements of the products we sell to an audience with varied experience, numbering from one to upwards of 20 or more people.
Physical Requirements:
In addition to being able to sit, stand, walk, read, talk, write and hear, to perform the essential functions of this job an individual must be able to do the following additional activities: Have full use of hands and arms with ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time throughout the shift. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazards. Accommodations will be made if they are reasonable, do not create an undue hardship, and will enable an individual with a disability to safely perform the essential job functions.
