Job Description

Kansas City Athletics (UMKC) is seeking to hire a Manager of Kansas City Athletics Communications to direct communications operations, including storytelling, media relations, digital communications, and brand messaging. This position has direct or shared oversight of creative storytelling, digital content and social media for KC Athletics, advancing recruiting, fan engagement, brand growth and student-athlete success.

The primary function of this position is to develop and advance the brand of Kansas City Athletics brand through direction of all functions of the Strategic Communications unit, including, but not limited to:

* Oversight and leadership of the Strategic Communications staff, including full-time, graduate assistant and student positions.
* Develop and execute a strategic plan for digital storytelling to advance recruiting, fan engagement, brand growth and student-athlete success.
* Exercise judgement based on the analysis of multiple sources of information, determining gaps, and providing recommendations to Athletic leadership team.
* Cross campus collaboration within and without functional area to enhance Kansas City Athletics storytelling.
* Management of Athletics website KCRoos.com website.
* Lead game-day communications operations and personnel in the areas of web streaming, statistics, and table crews.
* Producing game notes and recaps, news releases and featured stories.
* Serving as primary media relations contacts for the athletics department and select teams fostering positive relationships with external media partners while identifying opportunities to maximize coverage and proactively position KC Athletics among local, regional and national media outlets.
* Maintaining complete historical records including statistics, photography and video archives for KC Athletics.
* Assisting with the marketing and promotions of the athletic department and department-wide initiatives.

Shift

Nights and weekend work is required.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

Possesses strong written and oral communication skills with a background in media relations and/or journalism. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks. Has knowledge of best practices and concepts in the communications function. Creative thinker and high sense of self-motivation. Experience with relevant stat software, Adobe Creative Suite and Canva. Knowledge of NCAA publicity and statistical policies. Hands on experience in stats and gameday operations of a communications unit. Ability to work various hours, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $53,976 - $87,500 annually.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
