Why This Role Matters
- As Senior Counsel, Employment Law, you will serve as a trusted advisor to business leaders, Talent partners, and executive leadership on complex employment law matters that shape the employee experience and protect the organization's interests. This role plays a critical part in fostering a fair, compliant, and productive workplace by providing strategic legal guidance across the full spectrum of employment-related issues.
- Your expertise will directly support the organization by mitigating legal risk, ensuring compliance with evolving employment laws and regulations, and helping leaders make informed decisions related to workforce management. Working closely with Talent, leadership teams, and external counsel, you will influence key initiatives involving employee relations, talent strategy, workplace investigations, policy development, litigation management, and organizational change.

What You'll Do In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Advise business leaders and Talent partners on complex employment law matters, including hiring, performance management, accommodations, leaves of absence, workforce planning, and terminations.
- Lead employment-related legal matters by providing practical, risk-based guidance that supports business objectives while ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Conduct and oversee workplace investigations involving allegations of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and other employee relations concerns.
- Draft and maintain employment-related policies, procedures, templates, offer letters, separation agreements, and other employment documentation.
- Manage employment litigation, agency charges, and outside counsel relationships to achieve favorable business outcomes.
- Monitor developments in federal, state, and local employment laws and translate legal requirements into actionable guidance, policies, and training programs.
- Support mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and corporate transactions by conducting employment-related due diligence, workforce assessments, and integration activities.
- Develop and deliver training programs for managers and employees on employment law topics, workplace compliance, and risk mitigation.
- Partner with senior legal leadership on strategic initiatives, corporate projects, and legal department priorities.
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and work direction to Associate Counsels, Assistant Counsels, Paralegals, and other Legal Department team members.
What You Will Bring Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and active bar membership in good standing.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of employment law experience in a law firm, in-house legal department, or combination of both.
- Deep subject matter expertise across employment law matters, including wage and hour laws, accommodations, leaves of absence, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, employee relations, and workplace investigations.
- Experience advising business leaders and Human Resources/Talent teams on complex employment-related issues.
- Experience managing employment litigation, agency investigations, and outside counsel relationships.
- Strong analytical, communication, presentation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex legal projects with significant business impact.
- Ability to interpret legal requirements and translate them into practical business solutions.
- Strong written communication skills, including drafting policies, procedures, agreements, reports, and legal guidance.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt effectively in a dynamic business environment.
- Ability to build trusted relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting publicly traded companies and advising on SEC-related human capital disclosures.
- Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, workforce restructuring, and related employment matters.
- Experience advising on compensation, benefits, pay equity, employee classification, and workforce planning matters.
- Experience developing and delivering employment law and compliance training programs.
- Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and serving on enterprise-wide committees or working groups.
- Experience supervising or mentoring attorneys, paralegals, or legal support staff.
- Healthcare, insurance, or other highly regulated industry experience.
Compensation The salary range for this position is $155,000-$180,000. Actual compensation is based on experience, skills, education, work location, and internal equity. This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation and the comprehensive benefits outlined in the My Total Value section.
