About This Role

This position will support the development of a hardware-oriented power electronics research program in the Mike Wiegers Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The position will contribute to laboratory infrastructure development, experimental research, preparation of externally funded proposals, peer-reviewed publications, and the training of graduate and undergraduate researchers in power electronics design, control, and experimental validation.


About Us

The Mike Wiegers Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, as one of the eight departments within the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering, has 19 faculty members and approximately 500 undergraduate and graduate students. The department is located in the new Engineering Hall equipped with the state-of-the-art research laboratories, classrooms, and office spaces. The department has strong research programs in power systems, power electronics, wireless communications, network engineering, and biomedical engineering. What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Research experience in power electronics, power conversion, or a closely related area.
  • Experience with modeling, simulation, or experimental evaluation of electrical engineering systems.

  • The degree requirement is necessary to ensure candidates possess the specialized knowledge, skills and abilities that can only be attained through a formal educational program at this level.



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Ability to conduct research independently and exercise technical judgment in the design and evaluation of experiments.
  • Ability to communicate research results through technical reports, presentations, or scholarly publications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty members and student researchers.
  • Experience in the design, construction, control, and experimental verification of power electronics converters and laboratory prototypes.
  • Experience with AC-DC, DC-DC, or DC-AC power conversion, including bidirectional or grid-connected converters.
  • Experience in one or more application areas such as electric vehicle charging, vehicle-to-grid systems, DC microgrids, uninterruptible power supplies, renewable-energy systems, wide-bandgap converters, or power conversion for data centers.
  • Experience with laboratory instrumentation, data acquisition, embedded control implementation, hardware protection, and safe operation of power electronics testbeds.
  • Record of peer-reviewed journal or conference publications in power electronics or a related field.
  • Experience contributing to externally funded, collaborative, or industry-sponsored research projects.
  • Experience assisting with research proposal preparation.
  • Experience mentoring graduate or undergraduate students in laboratory-based research.
