Job Title: Animal Technician

Location(s): San Francisco, CA

Job Summary:
A research laboratory department is seeking an Animal Technician with hands-on animal husbandry experience to support daily animal care and facility operations. The ideal candidate will have experience working with laboratory animals and be comfortable performing routine husbandry activities in a research environment.

Experience working in an ABSL-2 environment is highly desirable and may be required as responsibilities expand.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform daily animal husbandry and routine animal care activities.
• Clean, sanitize, and maintain animal housing areas, cages, equipment, and related facilities.
• Monitor animal health and well-being and report any abnormalities or concerns.
• Handle and restrain laboratory animals in accordance with established procedures.
• Maintain accurate animal care and facility records.
• Follow established SOPs, safety procedures, and institutional animal care requirements.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant animal care environment.
• Assist with facility maintenance and other operational duties as assigned.
• Support animal care activities at alternate locations, including Mission Bay, when needed.
• Follow appropriate PPE, biosafety, and infection-control procedures.
• Potentially support work within ABSL-2 environments as required.

Required Qualifications:

• Previous experience in animal husbandry, laboratory animal care, veterinary support, agriculture, or a related field.
• Ability to work an early morning schedule, Monday through Friday.
• Ability to perform physically demanding duties, including lifting, cleaning, standing, and repetitive activities.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures and protocols.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with laboratory animals.
• Experience in an ABSL-2 or other controlled biosafety environment.
• Familiarity with laboratory animal care practices, PPE, and biosafety procedures.
• Experience working in a research, laboratory, veterinary, or animal-care facility.

Schedule:

• Monday-Friday, 8-hour shifts; start time between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM.

Work Location:

• Primarily onsite at Parnassus; may be required to provide coverage at Mission Bay as needed
