The full salary range for this position is $73,800 to $131,200/year.

Brief Summary of Job Duties:

The Assistant Classroom A/V Services Manager supports the daily operations of Classroom A/V Services (CAVS) under the direction of the Classroom A/V Services Manager. CAVS provides instructional technical support for A/V equipment across approximately 275 campus instructional spaces, and this position directly supervises three full-time career staff and up to 35 student staff. The Assistant Manager manages office workflows and scheduling, develops comprehensive training materials, and conducts quarterly training sessions for both instructional and event A/V support. In coordination with the CAVS Manager, this position establishes streamlined operational processes and advises on support for the maintenance, repair, and utilization of all classroom A/V and computing resources. Additionally, the Assistant Manager supervises staff providing on-site and in person assistance, oversees equipment inventory, manages machine imaging for Mac and PC platforms within these instructional spaces, and advises on the associated computer replacement cycle.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 4+ years in related area and/or equivalent experience
  • 1+ years leading, supervising and coordinating the work of others
  • 2+ years supporting hardware & software installation and troubleshooting
  • 2+ years experience using deployment and management tools
  • 2+ years experience in desktop and A/V support in a fast-paced, helpdesk environment
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal communications skills.
  • Exhibited proficient technical skills / experience including Mac / PC, web development, on-line conferencing, multimedia, presentation tools, and emerging technologies.
  • Demonstrated effective skills in managing technical staff.
  • Thorough knowledge of desktop and business / technical support systems, including working knowledge of microcomputer and workstation hardware, operating systems and network hardware and software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience using strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding of other areas of IT.
  • Proven history in supervision and management of students and other employees in a university environment.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

Managerial & Administrative (40%): Manages daily operations and scheduling for Classroom A/V Services. Supervises technical support response for approximately 275 instructional and department classrooms across campus, including computer labs. Enforces staffing and operating policies for Classroom A/V Services at the direction of the Classroom A/V Services Manager. Hires, onboards and manages student staff, including training and payroll management. Supervises and advises on training of full-time staff. Assigns duties to full time and student staff to ensure efficient delivery of all services offered by Classroom A/V Services to the campus community. Manages concurrent scheduling of equipment and personnel to avoid allocation conflicts. Advises the Classroom A/V Services Manager regarding operational and support concerns, while proactively identifying and communicating technical or administrative issues. Directly supervises three full-time career staff and up to 35 student staff to ensure operational goals and service standards are met. Monitors and adjusts daily workloads of staff to ensure efficient support delivery. Establishes clear performance expectations and conducts regular evaluations to maintain staff accountability and support professional development.

Instructional Systems Support and Computing Operations 30%): Under the guidance of the CAVS Manager, Manages Classroom Technology Specialists in the provisioning, software installation, and machine imaging across approximately 275 instructional spaces, departmental areas, and computer labs, including the creation and maintenance of core "golden images." Supervises the incident management and triage workflow for Tier 2 and Tier 3 technical tickets, prioritizing requests, assigning tasks, and acting as the primary point of escalation and resolution. Oversees the deployment of quarterly software installations and utilizes specialized management tools to maintain a consistent system state across all managed machines. Collaborates with the AAIT administrative team to advise on computer upgrades, while ensuring all associated technical documentation remains updated. Coordinates with campus engineers, network specialists, and affiliated staff to secure necessary infrastructure for classes and events. Serves as the primary point of contact for real-time troubleshooting and technical problem resolution in high-pressure environments, including unstaffed venues.

Consultation (15%): Consults with and instructs faculty, staff and students on the effective use of equipment to improve classroom and event presentations and productions. Participates in regular meetings with classroom technology staff to provide expert recommendations and resolve operational issues. Provides information to faculty, staff and students regarding classroom resources and services.

Fiscal Management (15%): Assists the Classroom A/V Services Manager in analyzing the budget and making recommendations to the Classroom A/V Services Manager in matters of purchasing, staffing, and long range planning. Reviews monthly expense and income reports with the Classroom A/V Services Manager. Supervises collection of instructional technology usage data.
