This position is scheduled to begin January 2027. 

Mesa Community College (MCC) is seeking a full-time, Communication Residential Faculty. The position will instruct and evaluate students with diverse backgrounds in introductory communication courses in traditional, hybrid, and online formats in accordance with Maricopa County Community Colleges District (MCCCD) and MCC policies and procedures. Such introductory courses may include COM100: Introduction to Human Communication, COM110: Interpersonal Communication, COM225: Public Speaking, COM230: Small Group Communication, COM207: Introduction to Communication Inquiry, COM263: Intercultural Communication, and other introductory courses germane to human communication. 

This position will research, develop, and implement introductory communication courses as well as remain current in developments within the field in order to research, develop, and implement updated instructional materials. Finally, the faculty person will contribute to department planning as well as participate in campus and district activities as assigned. To best serve the students, department, and college, this position requires a physical presence on campus.

• Instructs students of various ages and diverse backgrounds in classroom and online settings. 

• Provides classroom and online instruction that covers a wide variety of human communication related topics utilizing learning materials that include verbal, written, audio/visual, computer-based multimedia, and learning management systems such as Canvas. 

• May provide guidance, support, and instruction to students in co-curricular settings, such as student organizations/clubs. 

• Evaluates student performance and monitors students' scholastic records including exam preparation and administration, scoring, tracking, and calculating final grades for each student. 

• Designs and develops curricula and instructional materials. 

• Develops and enhances knowledge of subject matter taught through Faculty Professional Growth (FPG) to remain current in developments within the field in order to research, develop, and implement updated instructional materials. 

• Participates in department, college, and district planning and development, and related committees. 

• Maintains academic support hours to assist and advise students to promote learning and personal development.

• Works with students outside of the classroom on instructional activities and projects such as clubs, undergraduate research, and internships with business and industry.

• Develops and cultivates connections to support department presence on campus.

• Remains current with new trends and developments in the field through technology, research, attendance at conferences, courses, seminars and/or workshops, FPG opportunities.

A graduate degree is required. A faculty may qualify with any of the following:

• Master's degree or higher in the teaching field OR
• Master's degree or higher in any field with 18 graduate credit hours

1. Master's degree or Ph.D. preferably in Communication 

2. Full-time college teaching experience (or equivalent part-time teaching experience) in in-person Communication courses preferably at the community college level 

3. Experience teaching distinct communication courses, such as Introduction to Human Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Public Speaking, Small Group Communication, Intercultural Communication, Business Communication/Organizational Communication, and/or Introductory Communication Theory & Research 

4. Experience teaching in alternative modalities (e.g. online, hybrid) 

5. Demonstrated experience in evaluating curriculum, and assessing student learning outcomes; including creating or revising curricula, using assessment tools, and analyzing data to improve teaching effectiveness

6. Experience using inclusive teaching techniques to support various student populations (e.g., active learning, learning-communities, culturally responsive pedagogy, differentiated instruction) 

7. Experience applying Communication principles through community/student engagement activities (e.g., Service Learning, Toastmasters, public speaking events) and participation in institutional initiatives or committees

• Travel to campus during the interview/selection process will be at the candidate's own expense. 

• Will be required to travel or be assigned to other MCCCD locations. 

• May be required to work evenings and weekends. 

• May require prolonged periods of sitting and viewing a computer screen. 

• May be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs. 

• This position requires a physical presence on campus with possible partial remote work depending on business needs to best serve the students, department, and college. 

• This position is scheduled to start January 2027.
