Role: Automation/Software Engineer

Location: San Diego, CA (Onsite)

Contract: 11 months


Job Summary

Client is looking for a Staff-level Software/Automation Engineer to join its Yield Architecture Engineering team. This person will build and support production automation systems, backend tools, data pipelines, and engineering workflows used by the client's engineering teams. The role is highly hands-on and focuses more on software automation, Python, Linux, SQL, debugging, production support, and AI-assisted development than traditional ASIC design.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, maintain, and support automation tools, scripts, backend services, and workflows.
  • Build and maintain Linux-based automation systems.
  • Develop Python-based applications and data-processing pipelines.
  • Work with SQL and relational databases to process and integrate engineering data.
  • Troubleshoot issues involving software, databases, scheduled jobs, and data pipelines.
  • Improve system reliability, monitoring, logging, and production support.
  • Develop tools that improve engineering productivity and operational efficiency.
  • Use GenAI coding tools/agents such as Claude Code, Codex, or similar tools for development, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation. Work with engineering and software stakeholders on technical solutions.
  • Document systems, processes, and troubleshooting information for knowledge transfer.
  • Work independently and provide technical guidance to other team members.


Must-Have Skills

These are critical requirements:

  1. Strong Python development
  2. Strong Linux experience
  3. SQL and relational databases
  4. Experience building automation, backend systems, or data-processing workflows
  5. Experience developing production-quality software
  6. Git or similar version control
  7. Strong software debugging and problem-solving
  8. Experience with GenAI-assisted software development - Claude Code, Codex, or similar
  9. Strong written and verbal communication


Education / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree: Science, Engineering, or related field + 4+ years of relevant ASIC/design/verification/validation/integration or related experience
  • OR Master's degree: + 3+ years relevant experience
  • OR PhD: + 2+ years relevant experience

  • Semiconductor engineering environment experience

  • LSF / batch processing / distributed computing
