Summary: The Nurse Education Coordinator is responsible for designing and conducting educational programs for nursing/clinical staff. This position develops programs to keep existing staff up-to-date, and acts as general resource for nursing personnel. Responsibilities: 1. Coordinates classes given by the department for precepting & charge nurses. The coordinator establishes the dates for the courses based on identified need, communicates the availability of the courses & identifies the faculty and curriculum for the courses. The coordinator also analyzes the evaluation data for effective teaching strategies & opportunities for improvement. The coordinator revises the courses as needed & works with staff for needs assessment of new curriculum content or additional related courses. 2. Supervises nursing and other clinical staff to include hiring, monitoring & guidance to staff in the areas of performance, counseling & disciplinary actions as needed. Provides guidance on professional development for staff. Provides administrative & programmatic guidance to staff in the director's absence. Oversight of Charge Nurse, Preceptor & AHA Program Development in addition to Liaison to Schools of Nursing and/or Medical Assisting. Facilitates the work of specialized nursing/clinical education providers for specific programs & job classes to ensure programs meet nursing/clinical staff education needs. Assesses program effectiveness for accuracy of content, evidence-based content & standards & outcomes of programs. Utilize needs assessment data to determine future programming & evaluation data to determine the need for revisions in programming. 3. The coordinator is a liaison to the various schools of nursing and/or medical assisting who have students in clinical placements at UNC. Coordinates the schedules of the school's students on the clinical rotations & communicates these assignments to the clinic and/or nurse coordinators. The coordinator works with the UNC nursing department/Outpatient Services and the schools of nursing/medical assisting faculty to problem solve any issues that arise due to faculty or student performance & is also a liaison to the schools with the UNC clinical areas. The coordinator also arranges the preceptor placements for the schools with the UNC nurse/clinic coordinators. The coordinator gives feedback to both parties on performance & operational issues & effective strategies in the clinical areas. 4. The coordinator works with other members of the department of nursing/Outpatient Services in developing content for nursing/clinical documentation related to the provision of care. The coordinator ensures that program content meets evidence-based standards of care. The coordinator is inclusive in his/her work with others to ensure that input into new programming encompasses the appropriate patient populations.

Other information: Education Requirements: * Master's degree in an appropriate discipline. * Graduation from a state-accredited school of professional nursing. Licensure/Certification Requirements: * Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
