Brief Summary of Job Duties:

This position is an opportunity to gain practical experience in the area of Sports Performance. The employee will assist the Director of Sports Performance in the coaching and implementation of strength and conditioning programs for all intercollegiate sports utilizing sound teaching principles.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with diverse groups at all levels, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, email, and calendaring software.
  • Knowledge of University policies, procedures and regulations applicable to the performance of the position.
  • Specialized knowledge of the team sport or activity, as well as basic technical expertise in coaching principles.
  • Current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the affiliated athletic conference, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) or National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), as well as other associations and agencies to which the campus adheres, and, at all times avoid any and all violations of these rules and standards.
  • Exceptional skills in customer service and the ability to work with a variety of constituents and in a diverse environment.
  • Ability to use sound judgement and discretion in responding to issues and concerns and maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent analytical and problems solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and be flexible while performance a wide range of tasks concurrently and effectively.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a team atmosphere and independently involving deadlines, periodic heavy work cycles and high volume while maintaining extreme attention to detail.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training, with a college-level program.
  • CPR Certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years in related area and/or equivalent experience/training with a college-level program.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

  • 70% Assisting the Sports Performance Department - Assists the Director of Sports Performance and other Assistant Sports Performance coaches in the coaching and implementation of strength and conditioning programs for all intercollegiate sports utilizing sound teaching principles. Assists in assessment of student-athletes to determine strength, fitness levels, and susceptibility toward injury. Input and administration of student-athlete assessment and monitoring data. Under the supervision of the Director of Sports Performance, assists in designing and leading training programs for two Intercollegiate Athletic teams. Provides all of the above in other campus venues, such as the fields, and gymnasiums that the teams normally practice in as necessary.
  • 20% Administrative - Assists in regular cleaning and manages maintenance needs of all equipment. Other duties as assigned by the Athletics Director and/or the Director of Sports Performance.
  • 10% Sports Performance Group Innovation and Growth - Assists the Director of Sports Performance in the overall growth and innovation of the Sports Performance Group. this includes, but is not limited to conducting research, testing, and implementing new technologies and collaborating with the Sports Medicine Group on various projects.
