Position Summary:

The Phlebotomist I will perform blood draws and specimen collection while ensuring accurate labeling, processing, documentation, and handling of specimens. The role also involves troubleshooting, maintaining workflow, and supporting a fast-paced laboratory or hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Perform venipunctures using straight and butterfly needles.
  • Collect, label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and package specimens according to established procedures.
  • Verify laboratory requisitions and patient information for accuracy.
  • Properly explain the blood draw and specimen collection process to patients.
  • Ensure specimens are stored and transported at the appropriate temperature.
  • Maintain accurate records and perform equipment/area decontamination.
  • Follow OSHA and DEP regulations and department procedures.
  • Attend required annual training.
  • Update patient information and respond to telephone inquiries.
  • Read laboratory results when appropriate to satisfy inquiries.
  • Troubleshoot issues and make workflow recommendations as needed.


Minimum Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
  • Valid phlebotomy certification, if required by the state.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
