Responsibilities

Peraton's Department of Interior (DOI) CHS III program will be leading the way for Cloud Hosting and Applications Modernization across DOI and its subordinate bureaus. CHS III will facilitate migration of legacy on-premises applications to a modern, secure and scalable multi-cloud platform. From sensors in active volcanic regions to earthquake detection data, CHS III will be DOI's central cloud processing and data solution.

Peraton is seeking a Senior Technology Architect to lead the design and adoption of high-performance computing (HPC) and AI-ready cloud platforms in support of federal mission operations. This role serves as a strategic technical leader and trusted advisor to senior government stakeholders, driving modernization, AI/ML enablement, and cloud transformation at scale within complex federal environments.

Roles and Responsibilities

    Lead the adoption and implementation of HPC and AI-ready cloud platforms, enabling mission groups to accelerate geospatial, scientific, and environmental modeling workflows.
  • Serve as Innovation Lead driving the adoption of cutting-edge AI/ML tools and services (e.g., Amazon Bedrock, Q Developer, AI-augmented development platforms) for federal delivery.
  • Identify and remove organizational barriers across people, operations, security, and network to enable first-of-kind AI/ML pilot workloads at scale in federal cloud environments.
  • Brief and advise senior government leadership (ACIO-level and above) on technology strategy, modernization roadmaps, and emerging AI capabilities.
  • Reduce cloud deployment timelines through automation and process innovation, compressing delivery cycles from months to weeks.
  • Architect and deliver cloud infrastructure solutions aligned to federal security and compliance frameworks (FedRAMP, FISMA, NIST).
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, security, and operations teams to ensure mission-critical workloads are delivered on time and at scale.
  • Develop and maintain technology roadmaps that align cloud and AI capabilities with agency mission priorities.

Key Skills to have

Cloud & Infrastructure

  • Deep expertise in AWS (solutions architecture, security, HPC); familiarity with Azure and/or GCP a plus.
  • Proficiency with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, WEKA) and cloud networking fundamentals.
  • AI & Data
  • Hands-on experience with Amazon Bedrock, SageMaker, or equivalent AI/ML platforms.
  • Familiarity with data platform services: S3, Glue, Athena, Lake Formation, and data lake architectures.
  • Security & Compliance
  • Strong working knowledge of FedRAMP, FISMA, and NIST
  • Experience with cloud security tooling: IAM, KMS, CloudTrail, and least-privilege architecture design.
  • Leadership & Communication
  • Exceptional ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical executive audiences.
  • Experience facilitating design thinking, innovation workshops, or executive alignment sessions.
  • Strong organizational transformation and change management


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree and 16 years of experience; Masters degree and 14 years; PhD and 10 years in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field
  • Candidate must have U.S. Citizenship
  • Must have an Active Public Trust or the Ability to Obtain a Public Trust
  • 10+ years of experience in cloud architecture, infrastructure, or technology consulting, with significant federal or public sector exposure.
  • Demonstrated experience leading cloud migrations and modernization programs in federal environments, including FedRAMP-compliant deployments.
  • Hands-on experience with HPC environments and large-scale distributed computing workloads.
  • Proven track record of briefing and advising C-suite or senior government executives on technology strategy and transformation.
  • Experience driving AI/ML adoption in enterprise or government cloud environments.
  • Background in automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to streamline cloud deployment and operations.
  • Prior experience managing or coordinating across multi-disciplinary teams in complex, matrixed organizations.
  • Candidate must have at least one of the following certifications or be able to attain within 90 Days:
    • AWS Certified Solutions Architect -Professional
    • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with geospatial or environmental data platforms (e.g., USGS, DOI, or similar scientific agencies).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices in federal cloud environments.
  • Google Cloud or other multi-cloud certifications.
  • Experience in leveraging AI tools to accelerate workflows, and for producing concise and clear technical AI-assisted documentation.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment
  • Recommend certification in one or more AI/ML areas:
    • AWS Certified Machine Learning Engineer - Associate
    • AWS Certified Generative AI Developer - Professional

Target Salary Range

$176,000 - $282,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
