Simulation Support Technician (Casual)

JOB SUMMARY: The Simulation Support Technician is a Casual position supporting the implementation work of the Technical Simulation Coordinator and responsible for (1) ongoing preparation and maintenance of simulation equipment, and (2) technical support during events including operation of simulators and troubleshooting functionality to ensure smooth operation.

This position works closely with a team of professional educators, researchers, and trainers to optimize SP performance for teaching and assessment. M Simulation works with each of the health science schools (including the College of Veterinary Medicine) and other health professions (e.g. Social Work), partnering with faculty and students to design effective educational experiences and examinations.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare simulation equipment before and after simulation projects (50%)
* Support the maintenance of mannequins and task trainers to assure proper functioning for project use (including loading and testing programming) and product sustainability
* Setup and take down of mannequins, task trainers, custom-built tabletop models, and other simulation equipment (e.g. computers, prep) for simulation projects
* Support supply management by assessing inventory
* Support routine maintenance functions of facility and equipment including cleaning/sterilization of equipment, laundry, linens, as well routine cleaning of facility

Support simulation equipment during project implementation (45%)
* Operate mannequins, both using programmed algorithms and on-the-fly
* Provide support to faculty and staff using simulation equipment (working remotely and alongside instructors)
* Provide ongoing quality assurance of equipment and simulation supplies to maintain fidelity and meet educational objectives of the client
* Support room reset between scenarios to assure required staging for repeated simulations
* Operate CAE LearningSpace to capture audio/video and data from the simulations
* Coordinate timing and support learner flow through simulations
* Serve as a embedded participant, as needed

Other duties as assigned (5%)

Qualifications

MINIMUM/ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate must be comfortable with a range of technologies (AV, computer, electronics, etc.), possess excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to work a flexible schedule that occasionally includes evening and weekend assignments. This position is part of a dynamic, highly productive team and must enjoy working in a team environment. The successful candidate must have a demonstrated ability to work independently with little or no direction, yet also be comfortable working with a wide range of people, representing the full diversity of the University community and the broader community of the Twin Cities. This position requires some lifting, walking, and standing.

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Earned degree (Bachelor's or above) or equivalent experience in a relevant field (education, physiology, or a healthcare discipline or other technical field)
* Intermediate knowledge of medical terminology
* Working knowledge of medical simulation

M Simulation (www.msimulation.umn.edu) provides simulation development, programming, and research in order to build bridges between disciplines and transform health sciences education and practice. We collaborate with faculty across the health sciences as well as with regional health sciences professionals to develop a diverse range of customized simulations grounded in evidence-based practice.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $30.00/per
