What to Expect
Tesla's mission to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy depends on the accuracy and integrity of the vehicle test data our engineering teams generate every day. We are looking for a Full-Stack Software Engineer to help build and grow an internal tool that supports vehicle engineering teams in capturing, validating, and managing the structured data their work produces. You will join the application's tech lead on a small, high-leverage team. The role leans frontend (roughly 70% of the work), but it is genuinely full-stack - you will be expected to work confidently across the backend whenever a feature calls for it. You will work directly alongside vehicle engineers, translating their deep domain expertise into durable, well-designed software.
What You'll Do
- Build features end-to-end, from modeling data and designing APIs on the backend to building the forms, views, and flows on the frontend. Established patterns mean you can be productive quickly
- Extend our shared internal libraries that encode our engineering patterns, growing them thoughtfully as the application scales and applying them consistently across feature work
- Institutionalize domain expertise by collaborating closely with vehicle engineers to translate their knowledge into durable, well-modeled software
- Own quality across the stack, from schema design and query performance to component architecture and state management on the frontend
What You'll Bring
- Strong React and TypeScript fundamentals, including modern data-fetching patterns (TanStack Query or equivalent) and good instincts about where state should live - lifted, local, in the URL, or on the server
- Production Python experience with a modern web framework and a real ORM (ideally SQLAlchemy); you are ready to do backend work, not just read it
- Solid relational database fundamentals, including normalized schema design, joins, and query behavior - the database is the load-bearing core of this application
- A track record of writing robust, maintainable, and scalable code
- Experience with Next.js App Router specifically, and/or experience designing or maintaining shared code that other engineers depended on, such as a design system, SDK, or component library, is strongly preferred
- Experience with Pydantic or comparable schema-first validation is a plus, as is familiarity with monorepo tooling or a background in engineering, scientific, or other data-heavy systems
- You consult shared libraries before building from scratch, and you are pragmatic about abstractions
- You are self-directed, quality-biased, and collaborative - comfortable working alongside domain experts and raising the quality of code that doesn't look like your own without rewriting it for ego
