Project Designer, Civil Energy Projects

The Project Designer, Civil Energy Projects will have a Civil Engineering / Construction background and is responsible for creating accurate and compliant civil construction plan sets for Tesla Energy projects, including solar, storage, and EV charging infrastructure. This role requires strong proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D software, a thorough understanding of civil engineering design principles, and familiarity with relevant codes and standards. You will work closely with Professional Engineers (PE) to develop civil design development for predominantly parking lot-based charging projects, as well as greenfield sites. This position focuses on drafting and design, with plan stamping coordinated through licensed Professional Engineers.

• Create code-compliant civil construction plan sets using Civil 3D for grading drainage stormwater parking access and SWPPP with permitting support
• Develop detailed civil infrastructure designs including PV canopy foundations retaining walls pavement sections curbs gutters ramps and walkways
• Analyze site conditions to optimize civil layouts for parking lots greenfield sites and charging infrastructure
• Interpret survey data topographic maps and geotechnical reports to inform project planning and design decisions
• Apply BMPs stormwater management strategies and environmental regulations in compliance with AHJ requirements
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and coordinate with Professional Engineers for plan reviews stamping and project execution
• Support construction activities through technical guidance RFI responses and coordination with contractors while maintaining project timelines and standards

• Extensive experience in civil design and Civil 3D drafting for energy projects, or equivalent experience
• Leads creation of complex civil construction plan sets for challenging sites, including greenfield and multi-phase projects
• Provides technical expertise to Associate Civil Designers and cross-functional project teams throughout the full project lifecycle
• Proficient in advanced Civil 3D features with in-depth knowledge of site design, civil engineering systems, and regulatory compliance
• Coordinates complex civil scope including retaining walls, PV canopy foundations, drainage systems, and grading solutions
• Develops and implements civil design standards, templates, processes, and best practices for the organization
• Mentors junior designers and leads technical training on Civil 3D and civil design principles
