Assistant Coach - Track & Field (Throws) - 140334

The University of California San Diego is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Coach - Track & Field (Throws). Collaborate with the Head Coach to guide and mentor scholar-athletes in competitive collegiate fencing. Assist in developing training programs, organizing practices, and providing technical instruction to enhance athletes' skills and performance. Foster a positive team environment, motivate athletes, and contribute to their overall growth both on and off the strip. Key element of the job is to provide private lessons on a weekly basis, specific to the assigned weapon, to each scholar athlete. The incumbent must follow the athletic philosophy consistent with that of the UC San Diego Athletic Department and a commitment to diversity in all of its forms.

• Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training with a college-level program.

• Recruiting experience at a D1 level with student-athletes that are at a high-academic and high-athletic level.

• Strong interpersonal, motivational and team leadership skills to work effectively with athletic participants. Outstanding leadership, management, and interpersonal skills to relate to a wide diversity of faculty, staff, students and community members. Good interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact effectively with others, with an affinity for networking and collaboration, while focusing on the pursuit of departmental objectives.

• Ability to demonstrate creativity, sound judgment and decision-making;, be an effective problem solver and effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

• Specialized knowledge of the team sport or activity and demonstrated technical expertise in coaching principles. Demonstrated ability to teach specified sport to individuals and the team as a whole. Strong proven knowledge of sound principles and rules governing specified sport. Personal experience with specified sport.

• Leadership skills to mentor and develop athletes.

• Current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the affiliated athletic conference, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) or National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), as well as other associations and agencies to which the campus adheres, and, at all times avoid any and all violations of these rules and standards.

• Ability to follow work schedule as outlined by Head Coach and department.

• Demonstrated ability to use all athletic equipment and computer software programs needed to perform job duties.

• Experience in coordinating and instructing camps of specified sport.

• Ability to speak before large and small groups with evident poise and enthusiasm and ability to effectively motivate team members.

• Strong administrative and organizational skills, with ability to follow up and review, to ensure that no details are overlooked and that all arrangements have been made. Demonstrated ability to complete forms thoroughly and to keep them current. Demonstrated writing skills to prepare clearly understandable correspondence and reports.

• Ability to utilize video tagging software to analyze critical moments in games by athletes and opponents and communicate those to the coach(es) and team. Ability to use scouting reports. Demonstrated ability to provide statistical analysis and reports in regard to the specified sport.

• Preferred experience in College Track & Field

• Background check is required.

• This position is a mandated reporter of known or suspected child abuse or neglect, according to the California law, Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA).

• This position is a campus security authority (CSA) for the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, which is a federal law requiring disclosure of information about crimes on and around campus.

• Work schedule will be arranged with Head Coach, but often includes evenings, weekends and holidays.

• Must be CPR/AED - First Aid Certified.
