Overview

Imagine engineering the sophisticated fluid, gas, and chemical delivery systems that form the lifeblood of the world's most advanced semiconductor fabrication facilities. At SSOE you will continuously expand your expertise by confronting diverse and complex process engineering challenges unique to the semiconductor and advanced high-tech industrial sectors. From designing ultra-pure water (UPW) systems that deliver water cleaner than any found in nature, to engineering specialty gas and chemical distribution networks with exacting purity and safety requirements, to developing robust hazardous wastewater treatment solutions, your work will be at the intersection of precision, safety, and innovation. You'll be supported by access to advanced training, leading design and analysis tools including hydraulic modeling and pipe stress software, and a collaborative multidisciplinary culture. We foster your ambition with clear pathways for career progression, whether your aspiration is technical leadership, project management, or becoming a revered subject matter expert in high-purity process systems. All of this unfolds within a truly integrated team environment that champions knowledge sharing, innovation, and technical excellence, backed by the stability and proven delivery of a well-established firm.

As a Senior Process Engineer at SSOE, you will be a pivotal leader in shaping the process utility infrastructure of advanced semiconductor fabrication facilities, directly impacting process reliability, and operational safety. You will thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced design-build environment where your technical expertise, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills will be highly valued. This role offers the unique opportunity to work on technically demanding, large-scale projects at the cutting edge of technology, lead internal process engineering teams, mentor developing engineers, and directly contribute to the success of our leading semiconductor clients and the growth of our firm in this dynamic, high-growth sector.

AI and Innovation

At SSOE, we don't just talk about the future, we build it. As a leader in industry AI adoption, we empower our team to work smarter by providing responsible access to the industry leading AI Large Language Models, vibe-coding platforms, and securely integrating advanced tools into every role. From day one, you'll receive the training and support needed to leverage AI as a core tool for enhancing productivity, sparking creativity, and streamlining complex workflows.

Responsibilities

Lead and drive the process engineering design and planning for a portfolio of complex, advanced high-tech industrial and semiconductor projects, from conceptual design and process flow development through detailed piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and construction administration within an integrated design-build delivery framework.
  • Provide technical leadership and day-to-day oversight to internal process engineering project teams, ensuring the production of coordinated, high-quality design documents (PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specifications, pipe routing plans, isometrics) that meet our client's purity and safety specifications, SEMI standards, industry best practices, and project schedules.
  • Perform detailed engineering calculations related to fluid flow, pressure drop, heat transfer, and mass balance for systems including high purity water, specialty gases, and hazardous chemical handling.
  • Coordinate with in-house mechanical, electrical, controls, and structural disciplines to integrate system designs, resolving interface conflicts via integrated project delivery (IPD) methodology.
  • Support construction administration and startup by reviewing shop drawings, addressing RFIs, evaluating submittals, and participating in site walks to validate installation against design intent.
  • Conduct quality control checks and participate in peer reviews to ensure adherence to company procedures and regulatory standards before project deliverable submission
  • Ensure code conformance throughout design and construction, proactively identifying potential compliance issues and developing effective, technically sound, and constructible solutions.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level process engineers within internal project teams, fostering deep understanding of fluid mechanics, friction loss analysis, high-purity system design, gas and chemical safety, material compatibility, semiconductor industry standards, and the technical detailing required for reliable, contamination-free process utility systems.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of process engineering standards, master specifications, P&ID symbol libraries, calculation templates, and documentation protocols to improve efficiency, consistency, technical quality, and speed-to-market across high-tech and semiconductor projects.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution, qualifying for professional engineer (PE) licensure in the state of practice, is required.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who hold a Professional Engineering (PE) license. This credential may qualify candidates for the higher end of the salary range, depending on experience and overall qualifications.
  • 10+ years of process engineering experience, with a strong and demonstrated focus on semiconductor, advanced high-tech industrial, cleanroom, or mission-critical facility design.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit for process engineering deliverables, including 3D modeling and drafting for process piping systems is required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in chemical process system design encompassing fluid transfer, heat exchange, specialty gas systems, and hazardous wastewater treatment.
  • Strong working knowledge of P&ID development, control valve and instrumentation specification, and control philosophy documentation.
  • Experience with the design and engineering of systems that consist of fluid transfer, heat exchange, friction loss in piping systems, ultrapure/high purity water systems, specialty gas and chemical systems, solvent/acid/hazardous wastewater treatment systems or other related systems.
  • Experienced in conducting hydraulic calculations including friction loss analyses and pump sizing validated by recognized engineering methods.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and client-facing skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex process engineering concepts, system P&IDs, and risk assessments to diverse audiences including engineers, managers, project managers, trades, and client technical leadership.
  • Solid communication skills tailored for technical writing, client presentations, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct experience with semiconductor fabrication facility process systems.
  • Knowledge of sustainable process design practices, including UPW reclaim/recycle strategies, waste heat recovery, and chemical minimization initiatives.
  • Demonstrated success working within an integrated design-build project delivery environment on large-scale, fast-track high-tech projects.
