UMKC Information Services, Department of Technology Management located on the Hospital Hill Campus.

Job Description

The AV Install Service Technician will support multiple academic units by providing technical support for all associated classes, meetings and events. They will complete and support AV hardware implementations and will work closely with UMKC academic units and UMKC's Information Services team to ensure all support needs are met.

Successful applicants will be organized, detail-oriented individuals, who can remain calm and problem solve in fast-paced situations. This individual will be expected to provide exceptional customer service to our faculty, staff, students, and community. Work performed is often time sensitive, therefore prioritization skills are very important.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Core Job Accountabilities:

  • Installation, maintenance, and operation of AV systems.
  • Instructing Students, Faculty, Staff and the public on the safe and proper use of AV equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, maintain and adjust audiovisual equipment including projectors, document cameras, microphones, public address systems and speakers.
  • Assisting and supervising repairs completed by internal or external technicians.
  • Participating in projects that are not necessarily in job parameters (i.e. video production, lectern computer maintenance, etc.)
  • Operate specialized Technician-assisted classroom and laboratory technology.
  • Inspect classroom audiovisual equipment regularly and perform preventative maintenance to ensure system functionality.
  • Communicate progress on technology issues and resolutions to faculty, staff and students.
  • Assist faculty, staff and students on the use of audiovisual equipment and systems.
  • Assist full-time AV staff with the development of documentation on the usage of audiovisual equipment and systems.
  • AV equipment inventory management.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of related work experience including experience with projection, sound engineering, live event support (audiovisual), control systems and related audiovisual technologies
  • Knowledge of the principles of electronics, ability to make repairs on audiovisual equipment, and operate equipment
  • Ability to operate and instruct others in the operation of audiovisual equipment
  • Superior non-verbal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with Zoom and Microsoft Teams
  • Good organizational/prioritization skills
  • Ability to explain complex information and technologies in simple terms
Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Previous experience with Audio Visual equipment and systems
Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as starting at $20.00 to $28.00 per hour

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.

Grade: GGS6 to GGS8
