Description

The eLearning Specialist designs and delivers innovative, high-impact digital learning solutions that drive business performance and support the evolving needs of today's workforce. This role combines instructional design expertise, digital content development, and data-driven decision-making to create engaging, accessible, and inclusive learning experiences.

In close partnership with subject matter experts (SMEs), stakeholders, and business leaders, the eLearning Specialist assesses learning needs and aligns solutions with organizational priorities. By leveraging modern design practices and emerging technologies, (including AI and learning analytics) this role ensures learning solutions are effective, scalable and efficient. The eLearning Specialist applies best practices in adult learning theory, user experience design, and digital innovation to continuously enhance the learner experience and deliver measurable impact.

Work Arrangement: This position is able to work onsite or hybrid at our Headquarters in East Lansing, MI.

Schedule/Hours: Monday - Friday 8:30am-5:00pm ET.

An offer of employment with MSU Federal Credit Union and affiliates is contingent upon the agreed work arrangement (onsite/hybrid/remote) and work location. MSU Federal Credit Union may or may not be able to accommodate temporary or permanent changes to work arrangements or allow employment outside the city and/or state of residency in which the new hire resides at the time of offered employment.

Compensation & Benefits:



  • Salary:

    • Level I: $56,000-68,000+, dependent on experience
    • Level II: $61,000-76,000+, dependent on experience
    • Senior Level: $77,000-95,000+, dependent on experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

eLearning Specialist I -



  • Design and develop modern, interactive eLearning modules, simulations, and multimedia assets using provided inputs, ensuring alignment with defined learning objectives, business needs, and compliance requirements.
  • Utilize authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Rise/Storyline, Camtasia) to create engaging digital learning experiences, including the conversion of instructor-led training (ILT) into effective online formats.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) and participate in team reviews, design sprints, and content update cycles to ensure accuracy and relevance.
  • Support the measurement of learning effectiveness by leveraging assessments, learner feedback, and LMS data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Apply foundational instructional design techniques, including knowledge checks, summaries, and job aids, to reinforce learning and support retention.
  • Incorporate required compliance content into learning solutions and ensure all materials meet accessibility standards and adhere to internal branding guidelines.
  • Stay current with eLearning and instructional design trends, recommending innovative solutions to strengthen the organization's digital learning strategy.
  • Applies working knowledge of AI tools to enhance learning design and development, supporting efficiency and basic personalization.
  • Maintain and update existing eLearning content to reflect changes in policies, systems, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Test and validate learning modules across devices, browsers, and Learning Management System (LMS) environments to ensure functionality and user experience.
  • Upload, configure, and manage course content within the LMS, troubleshooting and resolving technical issues as needed.
  • Contribute to organizational-wide training initiatives by supporting the development of scalable digital learning solutions across business functions.
  • Understand the Credit Union's policies and procedures to ensure compliance and accountability for managing operational risks. Adhere to established internal controls and procedures to safeguard assets, prevent fraud, and maintain the integrity of credit union operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


        eLearning Specialist II -



        • Consult with Instructional Designers, SMEs, and stakeholders to assess learning needs, analyze performance gaps, and translate objectives into effective digital learning solutions.
        • Design and develop advanced eLearning experiences, including interactive modules, simulations, and multimedia assets, with increased ownership of structure, flow, and learner engagement strategies.
        • Create and edit animations and motion-based content using authoring tools and advanced platform features to enhance visual storytelling and learner engagement.
        • Apply AI-powered tools to enhance content development, personalization, and learner engagement, while evaluating effectiveness and recommending improvements.
        • Ensure all learning solutions comply with accessibility (WCAG) and reflect inclusive design best practices across all digital content.
        • Leverage LMS reporting, xAPI data, and learner feedback to evaluate engagement, knowledge acquisition, and early indicators of learning effectiveness.
        • Design learning experiences that incorporate reinforcement strategies (e.g., spaced learning, scenario-based practice, job aids) to support knowledge retention and on-the-job application.
        • Support organizational learning initiatives by contributing to content planning, deployment activities, and stakeholder coordination to ensure smooth rollout and adoption.
        • Enhance LMS content management and reporting capabilities by identifying opportunities to improve the learner experience, streamline processes, and increase engagement.
        • Oversee quality assurance, functionality testing, and seamless deployment of eLearning content within the LMS.
        • Provide guidance and informal coaching to entry-level team members on tools, standards, and development best practices.
        • Research, evaluate, and apply emerging technologies and trends to continuously improve digital learning experiences and drive innovation.


            Senior eLearning Specialist -



            • Serve as a strategic partner to business leaders and stakeholders to diagnose performance gaps, align learning objectives with real-world performance outcomes, and deliver scalable learning strategies that deliver organizational impact.
            • Partner with L&D and business leadership to shape and execute organizational learning strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and future workforce needs.
            • Drive the strategy and scaled adoption of AI-enabled learning across the organization, expanding use to address business needs and improve efficiency.
            • Lead the design and implementation of AI-enabled learning solutions, including the development of training pathways (beginner through advanced) and the establishment of best practices and governance models.
            • Lead the end-to-end design and strategic direction of performance-focused digital and blended learning solutions, aligning instructional strategies with business priorities and measurable outcomes.
            • Design learning experiences that drive on-the-job application and behavior change by incorporating reinforcement strategies, performance support tools, and manager enablement.
            • Develop and implement strategies that drive learner engagement, sustained adoption, and long-term effectiveness of large-scale learning programs.
            • Lead the adoption, governance, and continuous improvement of enterprise standards for accessibility (WCAG), inclusive design, and learner-centered experiences across digital learning solutions. Design and implement multi-level evaluation strategies (e.g., Kirkpatrick Model), leveraging LMS data, xAPI insights, and learner feedback to measure effectiveness and continuously improve learning outcomes.
            • Analyze learner data and platform performance to improve the user experience, increase participation, and inform strategic decision-making.
            • Provide strategic direction on learning architecture, instructional design, and user experience to ensure intuitive, engaging, and performance-driven solutions.
            • Lead organization-wide learning initiatives, including rollout strategy, stakeholder alignment, communication planning, and adoption measurement to ensure sustained impact.
            • Integrates reinforcement strategies, performance support, and stakeholder alignment to ensure learning is applied on the job and drives measurable behavior change.
            • Optimize the use of the Learning Management System (LMS) and learning technologies, contributing to governance, reporting capabilities, and system enhancements to improve scalability and user experience.
            • Mentor and coach eLearning Specialists and team members, strengthening team capabilities and fostering innovation in instructional design and learning technologies.
            • Serve as a thought leader in digital learning, driving innovation and influencing organizational learning direction to ensure solutions deliver measurable business impact at scale.


              Job Requirements:

              eLearning Specialist I:



                • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
                • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Learning and Development, Education, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
                • Demonstrated experience developing digital learning content (e.g., eLearning modules, presentations, or multimedia training materials).
                • Working knowledge of eLearning authoring tools (Articulate Storyline/Rise, Camtasia, or similar platforms).
                • Basic understanding of SCORM and/or xAPI standards, including how learning data can be captured and leveraged to support reporting, learner engagement analysis, and training effectiveness measurement.
                • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and course deployment processes.
                • Foundational knowledge of adult learning principles and user experience (UX) best practices.
                • Willingness to learn and adopt emerging tools and practices, including AI-supported development, accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG), and learning analytics.
                • Demonstrated experience managing multiple tasks or projects with guidance, while meeting deadlines and prioritizing effectively.


                eLearning Specialist II:



                • Advanced proficiency with eLearning authoring multimedia tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline/Rise, Camtasia, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar).
                • Demonstrated experience applying instructional design principles to create engaging, interactive, and performance-focused digital learning solutions.
                • Demonstrated experience using AI-enabled tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot, or similar) to support content development, personalization or media production.
                • Understanding of SCORM and xAPI standards, with the ability to support the organization's evolving learning analytics strategy by designing and developing learning experiences that generate meaningful learner and performance data.
                • Working knowledge of LMS functionality, and course troubleshooting/debugging.
                • Strong visual design, motion design, and interaction design skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into intuitive learning experiences.
                • Demonstrated experience leveraging LMS reporting, learner feedback, or analytics data to evaluate and improve learning effectiveness.
                • Proven experience managing multiple projects independently, prioritizing effectively, and consistently meeting deadlines in a dynamic environment.
                • Knowledge of accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and inclusive design best practices.


                Senior eLearning Specialist:



                • Progressive experience in eLearning development, instructional design, or digital learning strategy, with a demonstrated track record of delivering high-impact solutions.
                • Expert level proficiency in multiple eLearning authoring and multimedia tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline/Ris, Camtasia, Adobe Creative Suite), with advanced capabilities in visual, interactions, and motion design.
                • Deep expertise in instructional design, adult learning theory, and performance consulting, with experience designing solutions that drive behavior change and measurable business outcomes.
                • Advanced knowledge of learning technologies, including LMS platforms, SCORM/xAPI standards, and learning analytics, with experience levering data to inform strategic decisions.
                • Demonstrated experience leading AI-enabled learning initiatives (e.g., generative AI, synthetic media, personalization), including expanding organization-wide adoption to address business needs and drive efficiency.
                • Proven experience establishing governance, best practices, and scalable use cases for AI-enabled learning solutions, and to design and deliver learning strategies that support multiple proficiency levels (e.g., beginner, intermediate, advanced).
                • Strong expertise in user experience (UX/UI), accessibility (WCAG), and inclusive design, with experience setting standards and ensuring consistency across organizational learning solutions.
                • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering innovative, scalable learning programs aligned with business goals and organizational priorities.
                • Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring team members, providing coaching, and contributing to the development of team capabilities.
                • Demonstrated experience consulting and influencing stakeholders, with experience partnering with senior leaders to define learning strategy and drive organizational initiatives.
                • Proven experience leading large-scale or organization-wide learning initiatives, including the planning, rollout, communication, and adoption strategies.

                  Physical Demands and Work Environment:



                  • May be required to remain in a stationary position for an extended period.
                  • Ability to operate standard office technology, equipment, and tools, which may include many hours of computer and phone usage.
                  • Occasionally needs to move about inside of an office area.
                  • Exposure to potentially hazardous conditions, i.e. robbery. Receives detailed instructions and procedures to be followed to minimize the exposure.
                  • Occasionally moves equipment or materials weighing up to 25 pounds for transport between areas of buildings.
                  • This position can work in onsite working arrangements.
