Job Summary

Loudoun County's Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Services is seeking qualified candidates for a Preschool Aide position. This position, under the general supervision of the assigned supervisor, is responsible for providing care and assistance to preschool-aged children in a designated program and location within the County. Depending on the specific program and location, the role includes attending to the needs of preschool children, assisting them with toileting and playing, maintaining effective communication with children, parents, and staff, and ensuring safety during play and activities. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitors children's behavior, communication, and involvement in program activities; upholds the necessary staff-to-student ratios; and adheres to the established policies and procedures concerning supervision, interactions, and disciplinary actions.
  • Safeguards the health and safety of children enrolled in the program.
  • Communicates with parents, staff, and site school personnel.
  • Provides support, encouragement, and interaction with children during classroom activities; facilitates children's exploration and play; and aids children with their self-care requirements.
  • Monitors the activities of preschool children.
  • May carry out additional critical job responsibilities that are specific to the role and departmental assignment.


Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; six (6) months programmatic experience with children. Complete education and experience requirements to meet Virginia license requirements for position.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

The successful candidate must:

  • Undergo pre-employment fingerprinting and Child Protective Services (CPS) background checks.
  • Pass TB test within 30 days of hire and each year thereafter.
  • Annually complete a sworn disclosure statement or affirmation disclosing any criminal convictions or pending criminal charges.
  • Complete First Aid/CPR certifications prior to hire or immediately upon hire.
  • Have or take OSHA (Bloodborne pathogens) training within 30 days of hire; and complete any other training requirements.
