The Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a well-qualified specialist to team with engineering professionals to provide technical expertise and collaboration on tasks or projects, as well as to provide technical applications of principles, theories, and concepts associated with operation, maintenance, and configuration management in our Measurement Science Department and adjacent teams.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with engineers and scientists to provide technical input on various tasks.
  • Function as a Subject Matter Expert to offer solutions to everyday issues for Facility Managers, Engineers, and Researchers.
  • Use experience and knowledge to work with engineers and operators to troubleshoot and repair issues.
  • Use data analytic tools and experience to solve complex technical issues, including electrical and mechanical troubleshooting .
  • Use various software packages to develop intuitive graphical interfaces and/or models.
  • Provide technical input to support procurement activities of capital or other systems science equipment with respect to operation, reliability, and performance.
  • Provide technical direction on proposals and strategic business ventures to ensure the work is being executed timely and correctly.
  • Exercise independent judgment and understanding of Engineering/BEA/DOE requirements and priorities.
  • Develop relationships as needed to support work assignments if required technical inputs lie outside of normal expertise or education.
  • Automation controls for designs.
  • Use of networking and communication protocols.
  • Proficient in PLC and National Instrument coding language models and software.

Required:

  • Level 4: Bachelor of Science degree in a technical field from an accredited institution and 9 years of relevant experience, a Master's degree in the same fields and 6 years of relevant experience, a PhD and 4 years of relevant experience, or 15 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Level 5: Bachelor of Science degree in a technical field from an accredited institution and 14 years of relevant experience, a Master's degree in the same fields and 8 years of relevant experience, a PhD and 6 years of relevant experience, or 20 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Relevant experience to include experience with design work for automation controls, creating solutions for networking and communications protocols, and experience with PLC and National Instrument coding language models and software.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office and field/laboratory environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required. Job Information:

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring an I&C Technical Engineering Collaboration Specialist to work on our Measurement Science team. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Energy Innovation Laboratory in Idaho Falls with every other Friday off.

  • The pay range for this position is: Level 4 ($95,256 - $195,288) / Level 5 ($114,360 - $234,336). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
