Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team of qualified, diverse professionals supporting a high visibility modernization effort. The ideal candidate will play a critical role within the Data Modernization Team (DMOD), whose goal is to make legacy Medicare data in the shared systems (FISS, MCS, CWF, and VMS) available in modern databases in AWS by providing real-time and continuous replication and transformation of VSAM data into a target platform. This position directly supports major initiatives at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), ensuring that data is accurate, reliable, and aligned with CMS business and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:

    Database Management: Install, configure, and maintain CMS database systems, ensuring continuous 24/7 availability.
  • Data Analysis: Perform data analysis in support of migration execution, including data profiling of legacy data sources. Validating data mapping documents and ensuring alignment with CMS business requirements.
  • Performance Tuning: Monitor transaction volumes, optimize SQL queries, and resolve performance bottlenecks. Analyze data quality reports, identifying anomalies or trends, and collaborating with technical teams to support root cause analysis of data discrepancies.
  • Data Security & Compliance: Enforce strict CMS security frameworks and policies to protect sensitive
  • Backup & Recovery: Develop, test, and implement disaster recovery and data archiving strategies.
  • Migrations & Upgrades: Plan and execute database migrations and software patching.
  • Agile Adherence: Participating in Agile ceremonies, backlog refinement, and sprint planning activities related to data migration tasks.


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 6 years with MS/MA
  • 5+ years of dedicated experience in PostgreSQL database administration in enterprise or high-transaction production environments
  • Deep technical understanding of PostgreSQL internals (storage, indexing, memory management)
  • Solid experience managing databases in major cloud provider managed services (e.g., AWS RDS/Aurora for PostgreSQL)
  • Strong skills in data profiling, metadata analysis, and validation of ETL or data transformation specifications.
  • Proficiency with SQL and hands on experience working with relational databases, legacy data sources, and structured/unstructured datasets.
  • Experience analyzing data quality results and supporting issue triage, anomaly detection, and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to document data lineage, data flows, and analytical findings in clear, accurate, and technically sound formats.
  • Ability to communicate effectively via multiple channels (verbal and written) with technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work within Agile environments and collaborate in cross functional teams.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting CMS, Federal Healthcare, or other large government programs.
  • Experience with data migration to cloud or hybrid environments (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Familiarity with industry data governance frameworks and CMS data quality standards.
  • Experience with data quality tools, ETL tools, or visualization platforms (e.g., Informatica, Talend, Tableau, Power BI).
  • Proficiency in scripting and procedural languages (PL/pgSQL, Bash, Python).
  • Containerization experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift.
  • Knowledge of legacy system structures, mainframe data formats, or enterprise modernization initiatives.
  • Certifications related to data analytics, cloud platforms, or data management.
  • Experience supporting healthcare-related data, including an understanding of regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA).

Target Salary Range

$135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
