Position summary

The Senior HR Business Partner (HRBP) serves as the primary point of contact and trusted advisor for the Accounting, Docket, and Opportunity & Inclusion Business Units as well as the Washington, DC office. In this role, you will drive long-term organizational success by championing talent management, performance optimization, culture building, and employee engagement. By leveraging workforce analytics, moving beyond historical reporting toward predictive and prescriptive insights, this role will inform local people strategies, measure HR's impact, and demonstrate clear ROI.

Position responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop a deep comprehension of assigned business units to drive value. Lead change initiatives and talent strategies that align with firm-wide objectives.
  • Operational Excellence: Partner with HR leadership to execute strategies, leveraging data to identify trends, and improve organizational outcomes.
  • Executive Advisory: Provide expert HR guidance and objective perspectives on organizational challenges through critical thinking, influence, and proactive problem-solving.
  • Performance Optimization: Implement high-impact performance management frameworks, linking talent development to workforce productivity.
  • HR Strategy & Analytics: Focus on predictive and prescriptive analysis. Use data insights to identify operational gaps and recommend targeted, value-driven process improvements.
  • Employee Experience & Lifecycle: Conduct 90-day reviews and exit interviews to provide actionable insights into retention and engagement.
  • Strategic Advising & Compliance: Act as a subject matter expert on federal, state, and local employment laws. Partner with leadership to ensure regional practices remain compliant and aligned with firm standards.
  • Employee Relations & Coaching: Collaborate with HR leadership on solutions for complex HR issues. Provide guidance and support to employees on employee relations matters, FMLA, leave of absences, using good judgment, and escalating sensitive situations as appropriate.
  • Stakeholder & Relationship Management: Build deep, authentic rapport with leaders by understanding their priorities, communication styles, and pain points. Ensure the right stakeholders are consulted and informed to drive initiative success.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Business Professional leadership to ensure the cohesive delivery of firm-wide programs, leveraging collective knowledge to drive consistency.
  • Data & Reporting: Transforms HR data into strategic insights, focusing on process optimization and the automation of administrative burdens.

Experience, skills, and qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree is required.
  • 8+ years of progressive HR management experience required, preferably within a large-scale professional service or "Big Law" environment.
  • Advanced command of Microsoft Office (Excel/PowerPoint/Smartsheet). Experience with HR platforms, UKG is preferred.
  • Deep expertise in multi-state employment law, performance management, and organizational development.
  • Proven success acting as a Senior HRBP supporting senior leadership and driving strategic initiatives.
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP preferred.
  • Strategic Agility: Anticipates future challenges and proactively design innovative, scalable solutions.
  • Growth Mindset: Adaptable, receptive to new ideas, and constantly seeking to implement newfound insights to support the business.

SALARY

Washington, DC applicants only: The target annual salary range for this role is currently $120,000-$140,000 based on a regular, full-time schedule. The amount of compensation offered will be determined by several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications, market data and internal equity. Total compensation includes a comprehensive healthcare benefits package, yearly retirement contribution, and may include an annual discretionary merit bonus.
