The Sustainability Analyst will provide environmental analysis on a variety of projects related to the built environment. Responsibilities include conceptual energy modeling, embodied carbon and environmental analysis for planning, architecture, interiors and consulting projects that may result in third party sustainable certification. As a sustainable design expert, this individual will be tasked with working alongside architects, designers, and engineers to analyze and integrate high performance strategies into design. This individual will also develop documents for third-party certifications, such as LEED, Fitwell, WELL, etc.

Project Analytics and Guidance

  • Support Sustainable Design analysis, including Whole Building Life Cycle Assessment, Daylighting, Glare and Thermal Comfort studies, and conceptual Energy Modeling.
  • Guide and advise design teams on projects, providing high performance design input and analysis to ensure consistent and high-quality design throughout the studio.
  • Support LEED Project Administration and compliance reporting.
  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of sustainable design presentations to clients and drive consultant work to achieve design goals.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years in environmental analysis experience
  • Experience with early energy and daylight modeling software: Climate Studio, DIVA, Radiance, DAYSIM, CoveTool, Equest, Energy Plus.
  • Experience with embodied carbon analysis and whole building life cycle assessment using the following tools: OneClick LCA, EC3, Tally, etc
  • LEED Accredited Professional with specialty designation preferred
  • Active tracking for Registered Architect or Professional Engineer licensure preferred but not required

Skills and Competencies:

  • Passionate about sustainable design integration
  • Preliminary knowledge of CA Green Building Code and Energy Code
  • Familiarity with healthy materials selection and certifications (red list free, EPDs, HPDs, etc)
  • Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM)
  • Proficiency in the basic technical skills of the following computer programs:

    • Experience with early energy and daylight modeling software: Climate Studio, DIVA, Radiance, DAYSIM, CoveTool, Equest, Energy Plus.
    • Experience with embodied carbon analysis and whole building life cycle assessment using the following tools: OneClick LCA, EC3, Tally, etc
    • Knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino and Sketchup strongly preferred
      Familiarity with Grasshopper, Ladybug and Honeybee preferred (curiosity and competence to learn these to improve parametric modeling skills)
R equired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Interior Design. Planning or closely related field
  • A minimum of 3 years of architecture, interior design, planning or engineering experience
  • Knowledge of sustainability, building science, integrated design and third party rating system guidelines (e.g., LEED, Envision)
  • Knowledge of certification standards (LEED, BREEM, LBC etc) and application to projects across all HDR Business Groups
  • Proven ability to prioritize oneself and the work of others in order to meet deadlines and provide high quality service to clients
  • Self-starter with the ability to act in a proactive manner to execute job responsibilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent writing, grammar, punctuation, spelling and proofreading skills
  • Energetic, outgoing personality to inspire project teams
  • Ability to work unscheduled overtime as needed
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects annually, execute projects work plans and deliverables assigned to them
  • Proficiency in the basic technical skills of the following computer skills: MS Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator)
  • Some travel will be necessary

The expected compensation range for this position is $71,000 - $92,000 and depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.)
