The Pennsylvania Treasury Department is an independent agency led by the elected State Treasurer and one of the largest state treasuries in the country, serving as custodian of more than $150 billion. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Fiscal Examiner I, you will review expenditure requests submitted by more than 70 state agencies to ensure all transactions are lawful, accurate, and processed in a timely manner. In this role, you will perform the following duties:

  • Quality Assurance: Conduct audits of expenditure transactions in accordance with established checklists and procedures
  • Information Review: Examine supporting documentation across multiple electronic systems
  • Work Documentation: Process transactions and record detailed audit notes
  • Agency Contact: Communicate with agency resource accounts to obtain clarification when necessary
  • Transaction Decisions: Approve or deny transactions within assigned authority levels

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time. Management may discontinue the telework arrangement at any time, for any reason. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience performing bookkeeping or clerical accounting work; or
  • An Associate Degree in Accounting or Business Administration including or supplemented by six credits of Accounting; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must have experience using Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook; web-based utilities; or the ability to learn relevant software to perform job duties.
  • You must be willing and able to pre-audit accounts payable and general ledger transactions for all Commonwealth agencies, their programs and operations.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Experience prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines effectively and in assigned timeframes
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently on assignments
