Hatchery Hill Clinic



The Athletic Trainer participates as a member of a care team and supports high quality patient care including engaging patients in maintaining their physical well-being related to musculoskeletal injuries sustained during activity. They perform technical, clinical, and administrative tasks which contribute to the smooth workflow and quality patient care experience in the clinic. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to pre-visit preparation, monitoring patient flow, rooming patients, obtaining patient histories and vital signs, obtaining physical examination for acute musculoskeletal conditions, patient education and exercises for musculoskeletal conditions in collaboration with physician or advanced practice provider, managing certain test results following protocols, fitting and charging for durable medical equipment (DME), supporting Epic in-basket workflow, triaging patients referred for care in sports medicine, returning phone calls, and assisting with medical examinations and procedures.



The Athletic Trainer collaborates with Registered Nurses, clinicians, and practitioners to support and coordinate patient care. Responsibilities include reviewing assigned team/provider in-baskets and MyChart messages, as well as completing delegated tasks. Athletic Trainers at GHC-SCW must have successfully completed a master's degree program in Athletic Training.

Job Specific Minimum Qualifications



  1. Valid license to practice in the State of Wisconsin as an Athletic Trainer is required. Must reside in the state of Wisconsin.
  2. Master's degree from an accredited educational institution in Athletic Training.
  3. Possession of or eligibility for a valid Healthcare Provider CPR/AED certificate is required. Employee must obtain certification within four (4) months of employment.
  4. Ability to travel to various work sites. Employee is expected to provide personal transportation. Possession of a valid Wisconsin driver license if the employee is operating a motor vehicle.
  5. One (1) year of relevant experience working in a clinic or outpatient setting is desirable.
  6. Knowledge of and ability to perform or learn standard clinical procedures according to established protocols and policies.
  7. Knowledge of and/or ability to learn how to properly use and maintain equipment, materials and supplies used during the course of treatment.
  8. Knowledge of and/or ability to learn and use computer-based applications such as MS Office, electronic medical record systems and scheduling applications. Experience with EPIC is desirable. Must type a minimum of 30 WPM with minimal errors.
  9. Knowledge of or ability to learn outpatient clinical administrative procedures.
  10. Knowledge of medical terminology and knowledge of basic pharmacology.
  11. Ability to maintain quality, safety and/or infection control standards.
  12. Ability to recognize, identify and report problems to appropriate personnel.
  13. Basic understanding or ability to learn about reimbursement/insurance practices for medical care.
  14. Knowledge of inventory management practices.
  15. Ability to instruct patients and/or families as to the basic nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care, treatments and follow-up.
  16. Knowledge of medical records and appropriate documentation.
  17. Knowledge of interviewing practices and techniques used in order to gather information.
  18. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate with patients, family members, visitors, and members of the healthcare team in a respectful manner.
  19. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to be culturally sensitive and to work with a diverse patient population.
  20. Ability to maintain good working relationships with patients and staff is required.
  21. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality is required. Knowledge of or ability to learn HIPAA requirements.
