Located at 978 Worcester Street in Wellesley, MA, the Sports Medicine team at Newton-Wellesley Ambulatory Care Center treats a large volume of sports-related injuries. Our specialists offer state-of-the art outpatient surgical treatment using regional anesthesia for conditions of the shoulder, knee, and ankle. We work with athletes at all levels, including high school, college, professional athletes and weekend/recreational athletes.
We are seeking a per-diem Medical Assistant to support the practice on-site with varied hours/shifts to cover vacancies and call-outs.
We are open Monday through Friday 8:00am-8:00pm and 8:00am-1:00pm on the weekends!
Our Medical Assistants partner alongside physicians, advanced practice providers, and nurses primarily working with 1 to 2 providers as our support model. Our team of Medical Assistants work with a variety of patients within sports medicine, pediatrics, and orthopedics.
Responsibilities include:
Functioning as a "flow manager"/ensuring efficient patient flow through the office
Assisting with direct patient care during the office visit (examination, procedures, and treatments as advised)
Performing clinically appropriate administrative tasks (chart prep, phone triage, in-basket messages, test results, prescription refill, coordination of care, etc.)
Maintaining neat, clean, and safe patient care areas
Providing an exceptional care experience by interacting with patients and their families in a professional, friendly manner consistent with their needs.

Summary
This role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow. This role involves direct interaction with patients to ensure their comfort and address concerns, as well as collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care.

Essential Functions
-Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height.
-Show patients to examination rooms and prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers.
-Record patients' medical history, vital statistics, or information such as test results in medical records.
-Perform general office duties, such as answering telephones, taking dictation, or completing insurance forms. Acts as a liaison with other departments and advocates for patients with a positive customer service approach.

-Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing.
-Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean and supplies stocked.
-Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies.

Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree?

Licenses and Credentials
Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] preferred

Certified Medical Assistant preferred

Experience
0-1 year Direct MA experience or medical field work preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Comply with all local, state, and federal privacy and confidentiality rules and regulations.
- Ability to take vital signs and manual blood pressure, as well as collect blood samples and other specimens.

- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software.
- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
- Managing one's own time and the time of others.
