Day & Zimmermann is seeking a Remote Director, Estimating, MC for Day & Zimmermann Maintenance and Construction (DZMC) in Charlotte, NC.

The Director, Estimating, MC will provide leadership and oversight for the Estimating function across multiple diverse markets and delivery models. Leads a matrixed organization responsible for developing competitive, risk-balanced proposals and supporting successful project execution. Partners with leadership and cross functional teams to align estimating strategies with business objectives and execution capabilities. Ensures estimating consistency, scalability, and accountability while driving continuous improvement in estimate accuracy, productivity benchmarking, commercial competitiveness, and margin performance.

As a Director, Estimating, MC here is the work you will do:

  • Provide leadership, oversight, and technical direction estimating team supporting proposals and project execution activities across multiple markets.
  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, Procurement, Project Management, Construction Management, and Business Development leadership to develop competitive, execution-driven proposals that balance commercial competitiveness, risk mitigation, and profitability.
  • Establish and govern estimating standards, procedures, tools, and processes across delivery models. Ensure estimating consistency, transparency, and scalability across all markets.
  • Support project execution teams through estimate validation, change management, benchmarking, productivity analysis, and lessons learned integration to improve estimate accuracy and future project performance.
  • Drive the maintaining and continuously improving estimating systems, labor productivity databases, historical cost data, unit rate libraries, and benchmarking tools to support accurate estimating and margin protection.


This role is for you if you have these skills/ qualifications:

  • Bachelors' Degree in Construction, Engineering or related field of study
  • 12+ years of estimating experience in EPC, industrial, energy, and construction with a strong focus on proposal development
  • Good computer skills and proficiency using SAP R/3, Primavera P6 8.3, Win Estimator, and Microsoft Word Office Suite Required
  • Certified Project Management Professional (PMP)-PMI Preferred
  • Proven experience estimating within EPC experience supporting maintenance, modification, and project portfolios.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a matrixed organization across multiple markets.
  • Extensive experience supporting diverse markets, including Nuclear, Fossil, Renewables and Industrial.
  • Strong understanding of commercial strategy, contract structures, proposal development, risk assessment, margin protection, and competitive positioning.
  • Advanced knowledge of estimating methodologies, cost modeling, labor productivity analysis, historical cost databases, benchmarking, and project controls systems.
  • Proven experience industrial construction estimating tools that are strong for EPC, heavy industrial, power, refinery, chemical, and large projects (i.e. Trimble WinEst, InEight, Aspen, etc.)

In compliance with this state's pay transparency laws, the salary range for this role is $192,700 - $231,240. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. (The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of union fringes).
