MaineHealth Behavioral Health (MHBH) at MaineHealth Medical Center Portland is seeking an Inpatient Psychiatristto join our 21 bed Inpatient Medical Psychiatry unit (P6 - Pavilion 6). Over the years P6 has evolved from a traditional psychiatric unit to one that serves an increasingly medically complex population with a particular emphasis on Geriatric Psychiatry. All patients on P6 have both a major psychiatric illness, as well as a medical comorbidity that requires an inpatient level of care. We are excited to grow our interdisciplinary team and welcome all applicants from those new to Psychiatry, to those who have many years of experience.

We are seeking a full-time psychiatrist to lead compassionate, team-based care for patients with complex psychiatric and medical presentations. You'll work alongside a skilled clinical team, including physician associates, pharmacists, social workers, occupational therapists, nursing, and supportive programming staff in a collegial environment that values collaboration, innovation, and continuity of care. Our care continuum also includes MaineHealth Behavioral at Spring Harbor our 100-bed hospital and MaineHealth Behavioral Health, our system-wide mental health service. Electroconvulsive therapy is provided to inpatients and outpatients at Maine Medical Center Portland as well as other system locations. Candidates with Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) experience or interest in ECT are encouraged to apply.

We provide a major teaching resource for MHMMC. We train and mentor Psychiatry residents, Geriatric Medicine fellows, Tufts University School of Medicine medical students, and Social Work and Psychology interns. We have a culture of continuous quality improvement and our performance in the areas of safety, quality, and satisfaction are consistently excellent. Physicians are expected to apply for faculty appointment to the Tufts University School of Medicine.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate of Allopathic or Osteopathic Medical School. Completion of internship and psychiatric residency and/or fellowship training.
  • Current or eligible licensure as a physician by the Maine Board of Licensure in Medicine.
  • Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or be eligible for examination by the American Board as documented by written evidence.
  • Current DEA Registration Certificate.
  • 3+ years' experience inclusive residency and/or fellowship training.
  • Meet other credentialing criteria defined in Medical Staff By-laws
