Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Office of Scholarships and Student Aid works to ensure that qualified students have the opportunity to study at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill regardless of their ability to pay. The office serves students at all levels, including graduate and professional school students and coordinates all student financial support for the campus. The office assists in the recruitment, retention and success of students while maximizing available funds, exercising good stewardship of those funds, and performing related research, analysis and program evaluation in support of long-range enrollment and campus goals. In addition, the office provides academic and co-circular support services for scholarships, provides financial literacy and educational tools, and partners with faculty and other student success areas across campus to provide excellent service to low- and middle-income students and other scholarship recipients. The work of the office is public in nature and closely scrutinized by students and their families, lawmakers, faculty and staff at the University, and by the media (local, regional, and national).
Position Summary
The Carolina Covenant Scholars Program within the Office of Scholarships and Student Aid at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a Full-Time Temporary Alumni Engagement Coordinator to support strategic alumni engagement initiatives that advance the mission of the Carolina Covenant. The Carolina Covenant is UNC-Chapel Hill's nationally recognized program for low-income students, providing a debt-free pathway to graduation through scholarships, grants, work-study opportunities, mentoring, academic support, career development programming, and a strong network of alumni and campus partners.
Reporting to the Associate Director, the Alumni Engagement Coordinator will play a key role in strengthening relationships among Carolina Covenant alumni, current scholars, donors, and the broader Carolina community. This position will support the development and implementation of alumni engagement strategies, communications, events, mentoring initiatives, and volunteer leadership opportunities designed to foster lifelong connections and investment in the Carolina Covenant program.
Primary responsibilities include assisting with Alumni Advisory Board operations and communications; coordinating alumni mentoring and networking initiatives; supporting alumni events, speaking engagements, and professional development opportunities; managing alumni communications through newsletters, social media, and engagement platforms such as LinkedIn and Heels Engage; recruiting and engaging alumni advocates; supporting graduate and professional student outreach; and assisting with public service initiatives, grant proposals, and community-building activities. The coordinator will collaborate closely with Carolina Covenant leadership to implement strategic goals that strengthen alumni engagement and expand support for current and future Covenant Scholars.
This is a full-time temporary position working 40 hours per week on a hybrid schedule during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.), with occasional evening and weekend event participation. The position is expected to begin in June 2026 and continue through mid-May 2027. As a temporary hourly employee, the selected candidate will not receive compensation for University holidays, winter break, or other University closures.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Management Preferences
* Coursework in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Work, Public Administration, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
* Demonstrated experience coordinating programs, events, communications, or engagement initiatives, preferably within higher education, nonprofit, alumni relations, student success, or community-based organizations.
* Strong organizational skills with the ability to independently manage multiple priorities, or meet deadlines.
* Experience developing newsletters, social media content, presentations, reports, or other communications designed to engage various audiences.
* Passion for supporting the success of underrepresented, low-income, and first-generation college students.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
