What to Expect
Tesla is seeking an Audio Telephony & Voice Validation Engineer to join its world-class Audio team, where you will play a critical role in shaping the future of in-vehicle and robotics audio experiences. This position focuses on the validation and continuous improvement of telephony systems, speech recognition, core DSP algorithms, AI & ML and overall audio quality across fast-paced hardware and firmware release cycles. You will work closely with developers to integrate new audio hardware, develop automated test scripts, conduct critical listening evaluations, perform root-cause analysis spanning hardware, software, firmware, and manufacturing, and establish efficient validation processes. All while bringing deep expertise in Telephony/Voice signal processing, AI/MLmodelrobustnesstesting,and a genuine passion for audio perfection, Robotics and Electric Vehicles.
What You'll Do
- Define, design, and execute objective and subjective evaluations of telephony systems
- Conduct acoustic measurements and data collection for vehicle and robotics audio applications
- Develop protocols for evaluating and validating DSP algorithms, audio software, and hardware
- Investigate, tune and debug algorithms for voice processing
- Work closely with developers to investigate, define, and iterate algorithm advancements
- Distill cross-functional requirements for new voice communication features to drive their design, validation
- Define, develop, and execute validation methods for AI/ML modeling (ASR, TTS, LLM, etc.)
- Triage and root cause audio issues, providing actionable details to developers
- Manual validation of audio functions in the car including voice capture, media playback and debugging relative issues
What You'll Bring
- Knowledge of ITU-T and ETSI specifications for voice communications: e.g. P.800, P.835, P.1100 G.160
- Experience with HEAD Acoustics ACQUA, setting up HATS and background noise simulation
- Experience using Network Simulators e.g. R&S CMX 500
- Strong working knowledge of acoustics, speech in noise testing, calibration in the lab and field and relevant pitfalls
- Experience with acoustic measurement instruments, processes, and tradeoffs
- Fluency in python programming, and MATLAB scripting, and familiarity with or ability to learn Linux/UNIX command line utilities, bash scripting
- Ability to hear digital audio artifacts, identify and localize physical acoustic defects
- Flexibility to learn and use the best available software tools and infrastructure
- Highly detail oriented and well organized
- Licensed to drive passenger vehicles in the US

Expected Compensation
$109,600 - $234,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
