General Summary

Performs preventive maintenance, repair, and calibration of radiographic imaging equipment to ensure compliance with hospital, departmental and governmental quality and safety standards. Identifies, diagnoses, and resolves equipment malfunctions and designs and installs equipment modifications as needed. Provides routine service for Special Procedure and CT equipment as requested. Conducts periodic equipment inspections and prepares and maintains required records.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Performs testing of diagnostic imaging equipment systems or multi-systems to identify failed components, utilizing advanced diagnostic devices, such as oscilloscopes, signal analyzers, test phantoms, and specialized computer software. Communicates with manufacturers and designs and constructs non-complex electronic or mechanical devices to correct equipment problems, as directed.
  • Performs periodic mechanical and electrical preventive maintenance and performance testing of designated equipment according to established schedules, standards, and hospital, accreditation, and regulatory requirements. Mixes and prepares stock of film processor chemicals and maintains related equipment. Performs annual calibration of test equipment to meet national standards.
  • Prepares and maintains documentation of imaging equipment inspections, service, and maintenance in accordance with hospital, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
  • Performs periodic mechanical, electrical, and radiation safety inspections, as assigned, in accordance with hospital, departmental and regulatory requirements. Notifies supervisor of equipment changes or modifications that might affect patient safety.
  • Conducts in-service programs and provides instruction to technical personnel on care and operation of imaging and associated equipment. Schedules and monitors completion of repair and maintenance services by outside service personnel and hospital maintenance staff, as assigned.
  • Maintains knowledge of current radiographic equipment operation, diagnostic devices and methods, and safety and performance standards through participation in professional organizations and attendance at in-service and continuing education programs.
Education:
Occupationally specific education or an Associate's Degree is requred.
Area of Study
Engineering, Engineering Technology or a closely related field.

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
