Application Window Open date: May 28, 2026 Next review date: Thursday, Jun 18, 2026 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Final date: Thursday, Jun 18, 2026 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Position description The Gramian-Emrani Center for Iranian Music at The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music was founded in memory of Ahmad Gramian, a founding trustee and chairman of the Farhang Foundation, a non-profit organization promoting Iranian art and culture, which previously helped establish the Iranian Music Program at UCLA in 2018. The center aims to blend academic scholarship with musical performance, supporting undergraduate and graduate studies in ethnomusicology, musicology, and composition. The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music seeks a distinguished performer and experienced organizer to be the Director of the Gramian-Emrani Center for Iranian Music. The position requires experience and knowledge that would include being an effective administrator, concert programmer, and event coordinator that would be of the level required of the Gramian-Emrani Center for Iranian Music at UCLA The appointment will be in the Department of Music Performance, Education & Composition; a PhD in music composition is required. The Director provides policy, administrative, and budgetary oversight, and serves as the staff administrator for the center. The incumbent works in close collaboration with the chairs of the departments of Ethnomusicology and Music Performance, Education, and Composition, administrators of the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music and other University units to develop, coordinate, and successfully oversee the Gramian-Emrani Center for Iranian Music. Duties include the administration and execution of all aspects of the daily operation of the Gramian-Emrani Center and the execution of special outreach projects, all with a high degree of independence and self-motivation. A high degree of emphasis is placed on the mentoring, coaching and preparation of any Herb Alpert School of Music students selected to participate in the program and their respective ensembles. The Director will report to the Chair of the Department of Music Performance, Education & Composition, with a dotted reporting line to the Dean. Qualifications Basic qualifications
